Meet the Bell & Ross BR 05 GMT

Jewellery & Watch News

Just as travel restrictions around the world begin to ease, Bell & Ross introduce the first dual-time complication into their iconic BR 05 watch collection. The Bell & Ross BR 05 GMT watch features all the classic design codes as it’s predecessors with its square-shaped case, integrated bracelet and round black dial but instead demands the eyes of modern-day globetrotters with a new bright red arrow-shaped GMT hand at its centre.

Since it’s launch in 2019, the Bell & Ross BR 05 has become the brand’s archetype of a luxury sports watch. Inspired by urban landscapes and the men who make the city their playground, the collection started as a placemat for a series of classic three-hand models and a unique skeletonised limited edition. Over the last few years, we have seen several new adaptations including a variety of BR 05 chronograph watches and the coveted BR 05 Skeleton Nightlum with its extraordinary green luminous openwork dial. Now the collection makes room for a whole new complication, the BR-CAL.325-powered GMT, a feature for those moments away from local land when you need to track a second time zone.

The addition of a GMT watch in the Bell & Ross BR 05 collection makes perfect sense after looking at the history of the Swiss watch brand. The complication has been introduced into almost all of their best-selling lines including the famous BR 03 and the vintage-inspired BR V2. The vivid red GMT hand of the Bell & Ross BR 05 GMT pairs alongside three classic hands for the hours, minutes and seconds to deliver a total of two time zones. Both are delivered with easy legibility thanks to Superluminova inserts and polished finishing. The black sunray finished backdrop also helps with readability and echoes the colours used for on-board flight instruments, an area that has inspired Bell & Ross since their founding in 1993.

Also mirroring the aviation world, the GMT hand of the Bell & Ross BR 05 GMT watch is shaped like an arrow, a symbol associated with orientation in time and space. The hand points outwards to the 24-hour graduated inner bezel to display the time at the wearer’s country of origin. The inner bezel is also detailed with two colourways, a black semi-circle to indicate night-time hours and a grey semicircle for the daytime hours. The dial also features the famous Arabic numerals with Superluminova, a date indication at 3 o’clock and the Bell & Ross emblem at 12 o’clock.

The movement responsible for the Bell & Ross BR 05 GMT watch is that of the BR-CAL.325 calibre, an automatic winding movement based on the Sellita SW-330. It promises a 42 hour power reserve, 25 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Fuelling the power reserve is a 360 degree oscillating rotor which can be seen through the exhibition case back.

The rest of the Bell & Ross BR 05 GMT watch follows in the footsteps of previous BR 05 models with a solid stainless steel construction, integrated bracelet with folding buckle, integrated lugs, signature mounting screws, brushed surfaces and polished edges. The case is the perfect mid-size watch with a 41 millimetre diameter and 11.1 millimetre height and is paired with sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment, a screw down crown with crown guards and a water resistance rating of 100 metres. The Bell & Ross BR 05 GMT watch can also be ordered on a sporty black rubber band with a pin buckle.
