Mint and Emerald – the Colours of the New Breitling Navitimer Watches

Jewellery & Watch News

The mint green and emerald green versions of the Breitling Navitimer, both in stainless steel or 18ct rose gold, continue the legacy of one of the world’s most iconic aviation watches and make for the perfect collector’s piece for 2025. Meet the new green Navitimer watches by Breitling.

The Breitling Navitimer is a collector’s answer to an uber-classic two-button pusher chronograph. It was a revolutionary design back in 1952 when it was first released and remains an icon to this day. It serves as a continual reminder to modern-day watch wearers that aviation watches - even when loved predominantly for their classic aesthetics - are tools. The whole idea of the Navitimer, even from day one, was its functionality in the cockpit. As an evolution of the Chronomat, the Navitimer featured the slide rule bezel for on-board calculations, proving incredibly technical for its time.

Perhaps if you’re looking to learn a thing or two about the Breitling Navitimer before investing in one for yourself, you may find its history interesting, given that the first model released was the reference 806, designed and supplied to the AOPA (the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association). The watch was fitted with a tried and tested Valjoux movement, which further cemented the authenticity and reliability of the Navitimer. Later iterations contained a quartz digital movement before Breitling began equipping the watch with in-house movements. But what of that famous dial?

The Navitimer’s Best Features

The dial of the Navitimer has an instantly recognisable layout and, despite its busy layout, is incredibly easy to read the time from. Its legibility is down to a three-register format filled with a contrasting colour to the dial. The running seconds are placed at 9 o’clock, while the minutes sit at 3 o’clock and the hours are situated at 6 o’clock. The original model became a huge hit thanks to its panda dial and though the Navitimer has been released in several different colour configurations, the basic design has remained the same. Another dose of colour is often afforded by a B wing logo located on the base of the central sweeping chronograph seconds hand. One feature owing to the legibility of the Navitimer is its well-crafted luminous coated details. Breitling experts use Super-LumiNova on the hands and the hour markers of the dial of this iconic design. After a few minutes of charging, the watch will glow richly in the dark for several hours.

As you can see, there are many cool features to enjoy about the Navitimer watch, and the fact that Breitling continues to release it in new colours keeps avid fans engaged and awaiting more.

The New Navitimer Green Watches

Some of the latest additions to the Navitimer line are the mint green and deep emerald green variants. The models not only outline the historic journey of the Navitimer watch itself but of the chronograph too. These modern Navitimer watches boast a flat slide rule and domed sapphire crystal glass, which gives the watch undeniable vintage-esque design codes. One of the most interesting features of these new Navitimer watches, however, is the return of the AOPA wings, which take up residence under the 12 o’clock location where the original logo used to reside. This element, combined with the legible, luminous elements and the iconic chronograph layout, of course, are all ringed in by the slide rule bezel. But what does it actually do?

The two new mint green and steel iterations of the Navitimer (reference AB0138241L1A1 and  A17329371L1P1) along with the emerald green model in a non-chronograph configuration reference A17329371L1A1 on a steel bracelet and reference A17329371L1P1 on black leather strap, sit alongside a more luxurious rose gold version (both in chronograph and non-chronograph versions). Whether you opt for a leather band or solid 18ct rose gold bracelet in these designs, all are designed to exude complete opulence and are perfect for pairing with elegant attire. And when describing the endless capabilities of the slide rule bezel, it’s often easier to list what it doesn’t do. Just some of the uses of the slide rule bezel include calculating the rate of climb, rate of descent, gas consumption, elapsed time, currency conversions, productivity rate, ground speed and miles per minute, not forgetting multiplication and division. And the list continues, because you can even use the slide rule bezel of the Navitimer as a compass, making it the ultimate outdoor watch to wear for all sorts of pursuits.

Although the three-handed Breitling Navitimer watches don’t have a see-through caseback, the chronograph iterations do. Breitling experts afford wearers a unique insight into the mechanics at play behind an exhibition caseback crafted from sapphire crystal. This material used for the back of the case in the chronograph versions showcases the Calibre Breitling  B01 – an in-house movement that provides a power reserve of 70 hours.

By far, the mint green Navitimer watch by Breitling is going to garner a lot of attention. This is the first time that Breitling has used green in this shade for the brand’s classic aviation timepiece. Paired with the black-filled chronograph counters, this panda dial is a striking addition to any collection and can be enjoyed on the back leather band option or a seven-link stainless steel bracelet, equipped with a Breitling engraved folding clasp.
