Did you know that our C W Sellors Bloom jewellery collection is home to hundreds of innovative designs incorporating unusual gemstones? Over recent months, the collection has expanded to accommodate creations made from Malachite, Whitby Jet, Mother of Pearl and the famous Blue John Gemstone. Offerings in 18ct rose gold, white gold, and yellow gold provide plenty of choice to suit all tastes, too. And since St Patrick’s Day is around the corner, we felt there is no better time to present the best of our green Malachite jewellery creations than today.

The entrancing green hues of Malachite form the foundations of some of our finest Bloom jewellery designs here at C W Sellors - a range that celebrates the iconic four-leaf clover that we instantly associate with St Patrick’s Day. But have you ever wondered why this motif is associated with being so lucky? And how did the four-leaf clover become linked to historical celebrations like St Patrick’s Day?

The Lucky Leaf

The four-leaf clover is a small plant with four distinctive-looking leaves. It has been around for centuries and is supposed to hold special lucky powers. In the early days of Ireland, Celtic priests carried the three-leaf version, or shamrock, believing it could help them see evil spirits. The four-leaf versions were Celtic charms and were also thought to have magical powers back then. Both the four-leaf clover and the Shamrock are associated with St Patrick’s Day. The plant does not naturally produce the four-leaf type, which is what makes it so rare. These imperfections are thought to stand for faith, love, hope and luck. Ireland is also thought to have the highest population of the plant, hence the saying “the luck of the Irish”. So, what about the colour green and its association with St Paddy’s Day?

Green is the colour associated with Irish folklore and the country’s links with the shamrock. You may also recognise the nickname “Emerald Isle” for Ireland. The colour represents Irish nationalism and rebellion. Green gemstones are a great way to mark Saint Paddy’s Day, too. Aside from the classic Emerald stone, or gemstones like Tourmaline and Peridot - Malachite is a great alternative. The stone has been mined from as early as 4,000 BC and became popular as a pigment for ancient paintings. From contemporary sterling silver designs to traditional gold creations – our Bloom jewellery collection is brimming with alluring earrings, necklaces, rings and bracelets, all made from Malachite. The Malachite Jewellery Designs of our Bloom Collection

This year, dip into your jewellery collection and wear that piece of green gemstone jewellery you never normally wear. Not just for St Patrick’s Day, but every day. Peridot, Tourmaline and Emerald are all perfect for adding a touch of colour to your everyday style, as is Malachite. This year, you might want to gift a token of luck to a friend or family member, or maybe you want to indulge in something for yourself. Our Bloom collection comprises delights such as the four-leaf clover pendant crafted from sterling silver, or the dainty clover necklace featuring a total of 5 leaf-shaped cabochons, all meticulously arranged along a delicate sterling silver chain.

As Malachite is such a versatile gemstone, it can be accompanied by other similarly styled creations and layered with designs belonging to the Bloom collection. Take, for instance, the four-leaf clover Malachite Bloom ring. Its dramatic green hue is elevated by a meticulous beaded edging and has been crafted from sterling silver, enabling it to be paired with other creations from the same collection. Crafted by the skilled hands of our goldsmiths and in-house jewellery designers here at C W Sellors, each piece of Bloom jewellery in Malachite bears the unique hallmarks of our craftsmanship, including our Malachite and sterling silver stud earrings for something a little more practical, or our ethereal long necklace design, measuring a length of 30 inches and ideal for those who like to layer their look.

Whether you’re looking to purchase a single piece of Malachite jewellery for yourself or mix and match more than two pieces together for a unique gift for a loved one - our Bloom collection here at C W Sellors is the perfect place to find a statement piece for St Patrick’s Day or a piece of green gemstone jewellery to enjoy the whole year through.
