Jewellery & Watch News
The last pieces of our C W Sellors Coronation Hallmark collection, bearing the emblematic King Charles III engraving, are available to order before the hallmark ceases production on 31st December 2024.
Back in 2023, the Assay offices confirmed the arrival of a new hallmark to commemorate the coronation of King Charles III. The King’s Coronation Mark became available to order from March 1st 2023 and will cease on the 31st December 2024, leaving discerning collectors a matter of weeks to secure a final piece of jewellery from our Coronation Hallmark Collection here at C W Sellors, stamped with this special hallmark.
UK hallmarking provides a unique and identifying feature on every design to confirm its legitimacy. The system dates back to the 14th century and has provided both jewellery makers like us and our customers the assurance of excellence and origin. Without any additional celebratory hallmarks, each piece of jewellery from C W Sellors bears five hallmarks. These include a mark for the year it was manufactured (Y) for 2023, the makers/sponsors mark (CWS) for C W Sellors, the metal standard (375 & Crown for 9ct gold, and 925 & Lion for sterling silver) and the assay office (Anchor) for Birmingham.
Last year, the British Hallmarking Council sanctioned a new commemorative component mark that could be stamped on any precious metal jewellery from the 1st of March 2023 to the end of 2024. Other significant hallmarks of a similar nature include The Silver Jubilee ~ 1977, The Millennium ~ 1999-2000, The Golden Jubilee ~ 2002, The Diamond Jubilee ~ 2012 and the Platinum Jubilee ~ 2022. Being leaders in the realm of unique British jewellery design, our family-run business proudly produced a range of innovative pieces that carried the Coronation Hallmark as a historical homage. These can be explored in more detail in our King’s Coronation Jewellery collection.
Our C W Sellors Coronation Hallmark Jewellery Collection
Celebrating an iconic moment in history, the collectable designs from our Coronation Jewellery Collection boast the limited-running commemorative hallmark, approved by the British Hallmarking Council and the four UK Assay Offices, upon their designs. The symbol which bears the talisman of the new King, has been etched into the surface of each piece of fine jewellery from the series, validating and authenticating the purity of each design across an entire range of rings, pendants and bracelets.
The Coronation jewellery collection honours our proud British heritage here at C W Sellors in creating distinctive jewellery designs that tie in with our innate passion for genuine quality craftsmanship. The identification of precious metals in a piece of jewellery has been an integral part of fine British jewellery craftsmanship since the 1300s, when it originated at Goldsmiths Hall in London, and has since evolved vastly. Yet, the importance surrounding the protection of the consumer remains paramount. Each handmade piece of fine jewellery made in-house at C W Sellors by our skilled team of goldsmiths and craftsmen is sent to one of the four Assay Offices in the UK to be authenticated and stamped with a symbol that is unique to each office; the anchor for Birmingham, the castle for Edinburgh, the leopard’s head for London and the Sheffield rose.
Our Coronation collection faithfully follows the exquisite designs seen in our elegant Hallmark collection, which features an array of exquisite pieces bearing the Platinum Jubilee Hallmark to recognise 75 years of service of the late Queen Elizabeth II. In that same vein, our exclusive Coronation Hallmark jewellery collection features a range of equally beautiful pendants, rings and bracelets that have been crafted using traditions like hand-hammering and hand-polishing techniques, nodding to the origins of our family-run business. C W Sellors has honoured the special Coronation hallmark for the limited period that was outlined by the Hallmarking Council and the four Assay Offices, and as that exclusive window draws in, we encourage anyone who is hoping to own a piece of commemorative jewellery that honours this historical landmark to visit the collection and order a piece before the end date draws in.
The hallmark adorned by our unique, hand-crafted jewellery designs here at C W Sellors denotes the transition into a new reign, celebrating the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, whilst signifying values of excellence, origin and approval. Each piece shows King Charles III’s head in profile, stamped into the surface of the metal alongside the remaining five quality hallmarks. The special symbol was designed by Thomas Fattorini – a family-owned company that specialises in manufacturing and designing medals, ceremonial swords, national honours and civic insignia. It takes inspiration from a medal by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS and, as any collectors of historical memorabilia will agree, constitutes a valuable investment and an appealing collectable for any jewellery enthusiast or keen follower of the Royal family. Our King’s Coronation jewellery is a memento to celebrate this one-of-a-kind occasion that can be worn and cherished forever.
The Designs
There is no shortage of beautiful designs to choose from in our King’s Coronation Jewellery Collection. Many of the pieces celebrate our love of British gemstones with innovations that incorporate Whitby Jet and Blue John – each of which has played a significant role in our flagship jewellery collections over the last four decades. From coloured gemstone pendants to stackable bangles, delicate bead pendants and large statement rings, there is a design to suit every style and personality. Standout designs, of course, include our C W Sellors King’s Coronation Cushion Disc pendants, handcrafted from sterling silver. The range comprises six rounded-square discs, each stamped with the hallmark. A range of bracelets, crafted in the same style is also available.
Alternatively, for lovers of semi-precious gemstone jewellery, our colourful range of King’s Coronation Double-Sided pendants and rings are a delight to wear and collect. The designs have been set with spectacular stones that include Whitby Jet, Blue John, Lapis Lazuli, Malachite, Mother of Pearl, Turquoise and, of course, the timeless diamond.
