Hands-on with the Bremont Supermarine Descent II

Jewellery & Watch News

In tribute of the original limited edition Bremont Descent, the British watch manufacturer has launched a permanent design into their iconic Supermarine collection, the Bremont Supermarine Descent II. Beautifully engineered from titanium and bronze with a highly legible dial and waterproof rubber strap coloured in the same pastel tone of its predecessor’s bezel, this new Bremont Townhouse 2022 release is worthy of any underwater adventure.

The original Bremont Descent watch made history as the brand’s first ever limited edition dive watch. It boasted an all-black DLC coated case and bracelet, a 500 metre water resistance and an unmissable blue-accented unidirectional rotating divers bezel. All in all, it was a piece of English manufacturing excellence, and it remains to no one’s surprise that the design quickly sold out. Now also joining the Bremont Supermarine collection is the new Descent II watch, a special edition with no limited run tributing the original. Although it boasts subtle nods to its precursors design, it hosts a very different aesthetic to what we’ve seen from Bremont before.

Bremont Co-Founder Nick English comments, “The Supermarine Descent II was a lovely combination to design, and it offers something quite different aesthetically within the range. True to the Bremont DNA, it’s a watch that can be worn anywhere from the boardroom to the harshest of marine environments. The original Descent sold out some time ago so we’re happy to be bringing back a new version into the range.”

For the first time in Bremont Supermarine history, the Bremont Supermarine Descent II watch features a bronze unidirectional rotating bezel to match with bronze hardware on the black dial. The combination is breathtaking and is perfectly suited to a watch of nautical heritage. The bezel pairs with a lightweight aviation grade titanium case which sits on the wrist at 43mm in diameter and 16.5mm in height. Like most Bremont watches, the case is engineered using the brand’s Trip-Tick case construction with a scratch resistant DLC treated case barrel. We’re also welcomed to an automatic helium escape valve and crown protector to assist in a water resistant rating of 500 metres.

At the centre, the smooth black metal dial guarantees instant legibility with the bronze hands and applied indexes filled with Superluminova. A contrasting blue GMT hand further elevates the design and pairs nicely with the pastel blue rubber strap. Powering the Bremont Supermarine Descent II watch is the Calibre BE-93-2AV automatic movement which has been chronometer certified and promises 25 jewels, a frequency of 28,800vph and a power reserve of 42 hours. The movement is equipped with a protective patented anti-shock movement mount of additional reliability. Turning the Bremont Descent II watch over and you can see the beautifully finished movement behind a thick glass case back engineered from sapphire crystal, just like that of the domed glass protecting the dial.
