The Story of the Fenix

The line was first launched in 2012 and was originally intended for those who like to cycle, climb and hike. The features of the Fenix made it ideal for overcoming hurdles and challenges, reflecting the motto for the line – to “rose above”. Today, that same motto still stands. The designs naturally encourage their wearer to push themselves far beyond their known limits and boundaries. In line with this powerful and mission-achieving motto is the fact that Garmin specialists never rest on their laurels. The company is constantly striving to improve its features, hence the launch of the 51mm watch, which has been released alongside two other sizes, a 43mm and a 47mm.

The Fenix watch from Garmin was also the first to feature an ABC technology. The letters stood for an in-built altimeter, barometer and compass. Combined, these sensors make for one of the best adventure watches on the market. The release of the Fenix made navigational tool watches an accessible thing. It meant that wearers could access data while on the move. By the time the Fenix 2 watch was released, Garmin had already made some notable improvements to the fitness watch’s design. A large amount of emphasis was put on multisport tracking, as well as ski tracking and snowboard tracking. As such, this innovative design began resonating with a broader audience, growing in popularity by the day. Smart notifications were also introduced, making for a great all-around everyday companion.

The Garmin Fenix 3 arrived in 2015, complete with the Connect IW platform, as well as a new colour display for outdoor use. Its metal bezel gave off an elegant and modern aesthetic. The next generation, named the Fenix Chronos, was superseded by the Fenix 5, which launched in 2017, together with a range of sizes that made them accessible to all wrist types and female wearers. Music was introduced with the launch of the Fenix 5 Plus – a great hands-free feature for runners. Size, design and colour options increased by the time the Fenix 6 arrived, as well as Bluetooth and Wifi capability. The Pro Solar versions offered the advantage of solar-powered battery life, making way for the Fenix 7, which brought with it a whole host of desirable features.

The line is home to some of the best adventure watches on the market, including the Fenix 7 and Fenix 7 Pro watch. One particularly impressive Garmin release is the Fenix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar iteration, complete with solar powering capabilities via a sapphire glass and a fibre-reinforced polymer and titanium case. It is one of the brand’s most sophisticated smartwatches, boasting state-of-the-art technology that is primed for health and fitness enthusiasts.

User-friendliness with the Garmin Connect app is ultra smooth. It promises easy navigation, training plans and lots of stats for you to track your body metrics as you go. You can customise the different settings via the watch itself but it’s also super easy to do it on the app. Here, you can alter the fields and display options and settings in ways that suit you. All these cool features are shared with the new Fenix 8 smartwatch, which Garmin released recently. We’re going to take a look at the watch in more detail now.

The New Garmin Fenix 8 51mm

As mentioned, there are three sizes available in the new Fenix 8 model. These include a smaller 43mm, a mid-range 47mm size, and the larger 51mm, which we’re going to go into more detail on now. The largest of all three offers a titanium bezel, a 1.4-inch AMOLED display and a range of fitness-focussed features, not to mention great battery life and superior navigational features. The new Garmin Fenix 8 smartwatch follows in the footsteps of the Fenix 7, meaning that it provides a lot for your money. Superior materials, legible information, and a whole host of sports apps are included, not to mention fitness programs that will keep you focussed when reaching your goals along with supreme navigational technology, which ensures you’ll never lose your way, even when you opt for trickier terrain. The Garmin Fenix 8 has what the brand calls ABC – an integrated altimeter, barometer and compass – all important features for you if you class yourself as an adventurer. Thanks to the GPS feature connecting without lag and its SatIQ technology, you can ensure you never go off track, no matter where you are in the world. The watch comes with pre-loaded maps anyway, but you can also download maps from anywhere in the world thanks to Garmin’s integration of the TopoActive maps feature.

You wouldn’t be making use of these features without being a fitness-focused individual, and so to assist with this, the new Fenix 8 51mm watch looks after you, from sleep tracking to training plans to heart rate metrics, calorie counting and distance tracking. The watch offers Garmin’s latest targeted strength training plans, along with a full range of sport-specific workouts to make sure you reach your goals exactly how you want to. If you want to track your progress, that’s no problem either. You can monitor your performance by making use of insights that display ways to manage your exertion and improve your stamina. The watch’s training readiness features also help guide you by advising adequate recovery time in between your workouts too, ensuring you get the most out of your health and fitness regime. You also get to enjoy 24/7 stats that show you everything from heart rate, stress, and sleep activity to respiration rates, plus a whole load more.

All the while, the new Fenix 8 comes with a built-in flashlight feature for legibility during the night, as well as metal leak-proof pushers built into the watch's 40-meter water-resistant case. You also get to make use of a built-in speaker and mic, which lets you make calls and send messages once synced to your smartwatch. Voice command options also make keeping on top of business tasks much easier, while the off-grid feature lets you carry out some of these important tasks even when you’re not in close proximity to your smartwatch.
