Jewellery & Watch News
With the original Garmin MARQ Athlete considered one of the brand’s best fitness smartwatches, it’s no surprise that gym-goers, marathon runners, triathletes and cyclists are aiming their sights on the newly released second-generation model. The Garmin MARQ 2 Athlete delivers more premium smartwatch technology than before including a new AMOLED touchscreen display, an increased 16 day battery life and new fitness features like a real time stamina function, HIIT workouts and on-screen workout muscle maps. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Garmin MARQ 2 Athlete watch and why we think it’s Garmin’s best fitness smartwatch yet…
Lightweight Case & VO2 Max Bezel
The Garmin MARQ collection has always been aimed at those who demand the best, both technology-wise and in terms of appearance. The series boasts Garmin’s most luxurious materials including lightweight titanium, ceramic and straps made of leather, metal and breathable rubber. The Garmin MARQ 2 Athlete is no different, delivering a grade 5 titanium case that sits super light on the wrist. It’s imposing 46mm diameter stays the same and on top, presents a ceramic bezel decorated with a scale for VO2 max and recovery time. This allows you to monitor your VO2 and train it, so your body uses more oxygen and in turn, trains faster and more efficiently. The Garmin MARQ 2 Athlete is completed by a lightweight vented black silicone strap.
AMOLED Touchscreen Display
A huge selling point of the new Garmin MARQ 2 Athlete is its new AMOLED display. It replaces the memory-in-pixel screen from the original and offers an even brighter and more responsive touchscreen display. It’s the perfect centrepiece for displaying the mass of fitness features found within, like the full-colour animated workouts and pre-loaded TopoActive Europe maps. The Garmin MARQ 2’s AMOLED screen is protected by scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass and promises a 100 metre water resistant rating.
16 Day Battery Life
Another benefit of upgrading to the Garmin MARQ 2 Athlete watch is that you’ll get a significantly better battery life compared to the first-generation model. While the original MARQ watch boasted a 12 day battery life – something already insanely impressive in a smartwatch – the new MARQ 2 Athlete promises up to 16 days of power in smartwatch mode. Alongside that, we’re promised 21 days in Battery Saver Mode, up to 42 hours in GPS mode and up to 14 days in Expedition GPS mode.
Multi-band GNSS with SatIQ Technology
Like the previous edition, the new Garmin MARQ 2 Athlete watch comes with multi-band GNSS including GPS, GLONASS and Galileo for better positioning that just GPS alone. For the first time, however, the design incorporates a new technology called SatIQ. Garmin suggests this gives secures superior positioning accuracy in any environment while also optimising the device’s battery life. This means you can use the GPS functionality without worrying that your watch will be quickly drained of charge.
Jet Lag Advisor
An ideal feature for athletes that like to compete all over the world, the Garmin MARQ 2 Athlete smartwatch comes with a new jet lag advisor. This feature is designed to help you diminish the effects of jet lag, considering your sleep schedule and offering you a new one alongside exercise and light exposure recommendations. You can enter your travel details into the Garmin Connect smartphone app calendar and keep track of it all on your wrist and on your smartphone.
PacePro Technology
Not new to the Garmin MARQ 2 Athlete, but a coveted feature nonetheless, Garmin’s PacePro technology is a must-have for runners that are looking to seriously improve their performance. The feature is designed to give you grade-adjusted pace guidance throughout your activity, based on elevation and your personal pacing preferences. It helps you plan your ideal pacing, see your target pace and measure how you compare to the target.
Real Time Stamina Function
A new feature for the Garmin MARQ 2 Athlete watch is a real time stamina function. Again, a necessary tool for any athlete, this feature tracks and manages your exertion which in turn helps you avoid over exerting before you hit the finish line. On the AMOLED touchscreen display, you’ll see a percentage number which reflects how much you have left in the tank at your current level of effort. Alongside it, you’ll know your potential stamina as the watch takes into account longer-lasting fatigue contributors.
Preloaded TopoActive Europe Maps with NetFork Map Guide
Previously, Garmin’s TopoActive Europe maps had to be manually downloaded onto your device by connecting it to a computer, but now with the Garmin MARQ 2 Athlete, you’ll get them preloaded for easy of use. The maps themselves allow you to keep your adventures on track; you can view terrain contours, elevations, summits, parks, coastlines, rivers, lakes and other geographical features. You can also download additional maps via Wi-Fi easily. On top of that, a new NextFork map feature makes these maps even more glanceable giving you a heads up on what’s beyond the next turn.
Plus Lots More!
There are so many more fitness features to find within the Garmin MARQ 2 Athlete that we could go on forever. There’s a Health SnapShot feature which lets you record a 2-minute session which tracks stats like your heart rate, heart rate variability, Pulse Ox, respiration and stress. The app then generates a report with those stats to share via the Garmin Connect app on your compatible smartphone. There’s also a huge number of preloaded sports apps for swimming, cycling, running, mountain biking, surfing, skiing and many more as well as animated workouts and HIIT workouts.
