NOMOS Glashutte Unveils New Metro Neomatik 41 Update

Jewellery & Watch News

Masters of colour and in-house movements, NOMOS Glashutte delivers a new complication into their Metro collection with a colourful date ring powered by the NOMOS neomatik 6101 movement. Aptly named the NOMOS Metro Neomatik 41 Update watch, the new release also receives an increased case size and comes as part of the brand’s substantial range of new 2021 Watches & Wonders releases.

Described by the brand as a ‘cosmopolitan’ watch, the NOMOS Metro was first unveiled by the German manufacturer back at Baselworld in 2014. Its elegantly minimalist aesthetic was conceived by industrial designer Mark Braun and today arguably remains one of their most popular pieces. Over the years, the Metro has quite rapidly increased in size; we’ve seen it go from a dainty 33mm up to 36mm, 38mm and now with the new NOMOS Metro Neomatik 41 Update watch, it makes room for the NOMOS 6101 calibre in a 41mm profile. Its name appropriately denotes this change as well as new outer track on the dial surface.

It’s new 41mm stainless steel case makes the NOMOS Glashutte Metro Neomatik 41 Update the largest watch in the Metro collection and yet it embodies the brand’s typically simple design ethos with an almost non-existent unadorned bezel, incredibly thin lugs, flat sides and a small knurled crown. Despite its new, larger diameter, the piece sits remarkably easily on the wrist with a thin 9.1mm height and the lugs angling downwards towards the dark grey textile woven strap. The case of the NOMOS Metro Neomatik 41 Update watch also features domed sapphire crystal glass and is water resistant to 50 metres.

Effortlessly understated, the dial of the NOMOS Glashutte Metro Neomatik 41 watch is home to the second update, the ring date complication. This feature is beautifully executed and in such a characteristically NOMOS way with contrasting uses of colour that instantly captures your attention. The base of the dial is white silver-plated and set off by dark grey markers, black Arabic numerals, matching black oxidised central hands and a white small seconds dial detailed with a fine concentric pattern. Juxtaposing against this otherwise monochromatic aesthetic is the date complication, which set around the edge of the dial uses two cut outs highlighted by neon orange to highlight the date.

The new date ring complication of the NOMOS Metro Neomatik 41 Update watch powered by the in-house NOMOS Neomatik 6101 movement first introduced by the luxury watch brand back in 2018. The ultra-thin automatic winding calibre is significantly larger in size to the original neomatik coming in at 35.2mm in diameter, hence the increased case size, but with it brings the wonderfully implemented date complication which can be adjusted by quick jumps both forwards and backwards. The 6101 calibre also delivers a power reserve of 42 hours and can be viewed through the sapphire crystal case back.
