Jewellery & Watch News
The highly anticipated Garmin Fenix 7 smartwatch collection is finally here and with it we get new titanium cases, an integrated flashlight, solar powered sapphire displays and a remarkable battery life of up to 37 days in smartwatch mode.
2019 was a pretty big year for Garmin as they launched not only their premium Garmin MARQ collection but their Fenix 6 range. The Fenix 6 was a huge step up from its predecessor offering advanced sports capabilities, a new waterproof wrist based heart rate monitor and one shining model equipped with a solar powered dial. It’s been two years since then and smartwatch aficionados like ourselves have been eagerly awaiting the news of the next generation of Fenix watches. Well, that day is finally here and marking Garmin’s first launch of 2022, we are proud to present to you the new Garmin Fenix 7 watch collection.
Like previous Fenix series, the new Garmin Fenix 7 collection delivers three sub-categories of its design: the smaller Fenix 7S, the middle-sized Fenix 7 and the larger and more powerful Garmin Fenix 7X. At the moment, the series is home to fifteen designs in total, five allotted to each size. The Garmin Fenix 7S comes in Carbon Grey DLC with a Black Band, Cream Gold with Light Sand Band, Dark Bronze with Shale Grey Band, Rose Gold Titanium with Limestone Leather Band and Cream Gold Titanium with Cream Heathered Nylon Band. For the Garmin Fenix 7 and 7X, there are options in Carbon Grey DLC with Black Band, Mineral Blue with Whitestone Band, Black DLC with Black Band, Titanium with Chestnut Leather Band and Carbon Grey DLC Titanium with Carbon Grey DLC Vented Titanium Band.
Increased Battery Life
There are several notable improvements to the Garmin Fenix 7 in comparison to the Fenix 6, but one that we know many smartwatch wearers will benefit from is its increased battery life. Allowing you to track your sleep every night and never have to leave it on charge, every Garmin Fenix 7 watch comes equipped with a sapphire crystal solar display which not only offers increased scratch resistance but massive improvement on battery life. This includes up to 578 hours in max battery GPS mode and up to 37 days in smartwatch mode with solar.
The new solar-powered sapphire display of the Garmin Fenix 7 owes its significantly increased battery life to its expanded solar harvesting an increased solar efficiency. For all nine models of the Fenix 7, you get 300% more solar gains over the Fenix 6 Solar with 25% increase in smartwatch mode, 30% increase in GPS mode and a whopping 90% in Expedition mode.
Flashlight Function
We knew there’d be some new functions as part of the Garmin Fenix 7, but never did we expect them to install an actual flashlight into the case! For all of us that still use the flashlight on our smartphones, the Garmin Fenix 7X watch gives you access to visibility in the dark at all times. Hidden subtly underneath the case behind a diffused transparent lens, two LED lights will illuminate with a simple double tap of a button lighting up the ground in front of you. The design works no matter whether you sport your watch on your left or right wrist, allowing for easy ambidextrous wear.
Not only that, but the Garmin Fenix 7X flashlight function offers several customisable settings so you can choose from white, fast strobe lights to a consistent red light. The red mode of the flashlight has been specifically designed to be used during emergency and can be used alongside SOS mode. This life-saving feature will allow you to signal for help should you ever find yourself in trouble and will display information about the user and their emergency contact on the watch display.
Other New Features
When we say there’s no shortage of new features available on the new Garmin Fenix 7 watch, we mean it, and soon, we’ll be reviewing these features in more detail (so keep your eyes peeled on the C W Sellors blog page for that). In brief, the Garmin Fenix 7 watches offer all the same functionality of the Fenix 6 alongside new Multi-Band GNSS, improved physiological training metrics, real time stamina, expanded sport profiles, HIIT workouts, sync settings, a Up Ahead feature, Visual Race Predictor and pre-installed TOPO maps with Wi-Fi map downloads.
While the sizes are maintained, the cases of each Garmin Fenix 7 smartwatch have been improved now entirely engineered from titanium parts and refined using high-quality DLC coating. The titanium is then reinforced within fibre-polymer housing for an impressive 100 metre water resistant rating. There’s of course also the sapphire crystal glass displays, and comfortable rubber straps fitted with titanium pin buckles.
