About Blue John and C W Sellors
C W Sellors has a fascinating history with Blue John. Our family-run company has been supplying and creating innovative, unique Blue John jewellery designs for elite customers and affluent clientele for over 30 years. It is one of the Earth’s rarest minerals and is found in the picturesque rolling hills of Castleton in the Peak District – the same location as Chatsworth House with whom we nurture a successful partnership. In fact, the Devonshire family was one of our first customers whom we commissioned a piece of Blue John jewellery for. Ever since then, the family has regularly commissioned our talented silversmiths and gemstone cutters to create designs that are both rare and memorable.

Sterling Silver Blue John Bloom Small Four-Leaf Clover Ball Edge Chain Necklet, N1044
Discovered over two thousand years ago, the only known deposit of this rare and beautiful natural gemstone occurs in a hillside to the west of Castleton, Hope Valley, Derbyshire, England, opposite the mountain known as 'Mam Tor', often described as the 'Shivering Mountain'. Blue John has only ever been found within the Blue John Cavern and Treak Cliff Cavern in Castleton in Derbyshire and this stunning Bloom Four-Leaf Clover necklet is a testament to these unique origins. It celebrates the enticing purple nuances of the Blue John gemstone and has been crafted from immaculately polished sterling silver, It features a beaded edge that frames the four-lead stone beautifully. The Blue John pendant hangs from an 18-inch necklace and can be matched with other elegant items from the same collection.

Blue John is Britain’s rarest mineral first discovered by the Romans almost two thousand years ago. The Romans settled just three miles from the area in the village of Brough and they were likely prospecting for deposits of lead ore when they struck upon Blue John fluorspar purely by chance. The banded Fluorite occurring in several colours of yellow, purple, blue, green and white, which would have most definitely caught the attention of the Romans, can be admired in modern jewellery designs like this stunning Bloom Four Leaf Blue John ring. Nothing quite captures the intense richness of the colours in the Blue John gemstone quite like a statement ring. The four-leaf-clover-shaped cabochon of the finest Blue John stone is framed in this chunky sterling silver setting and wraps around the finger with a solid, polished band.

The delicate chain, crafted from sterling silver, showcases five individual four-leaf clover motifs, each one equally spaced along the chain. In each four-leaf clover design, you can fully appreciate the rarity and uniqueness of each cut. The veins of colour running throughout each piece of stone vary from one necklace to another. The bracelet secures with a classic lobster-style clasp and a C W Sellors-engraved tag as a token of authenticity.

Our bloom collection features stud earrings displaying Whitby Jet and Malachite variations, yet the Blue John stone featuring in this pair of earrings is one of our favourite choices here at C W Sellors. The intense deep purple hues and white bands running throughout the stone are elevated by a polished sterling silver frame. For added detail, our artisan gemstone cutters and jewellery designers have chosen an intricate beaded edge effect. These silver stud earrings secure to the back of the ears with a simple post and butterfly fastening, enabling the Blue John stone to take centre stage in one of our famous and highly coveted Bloom jewellery designs.
