Recent Horsebit Milestones
Last year, Gucci celebrated the Horsebit motif’s 70th anniversary and to mark the occasion aptly, the brand launched some new designs to add to its popular collection. Although the jewellery line itself has only been in existence for two decades, the motif first found its way onto loafers in 1953, designed by Aldo Gucci. Since then, the Horsebit motif has been incorporated into luxury wear and precious metals spanning some of the company’s most popular accessories and jewellery. Last year, yellow gold became the precious metal to accentuate the boldness of the iconic motif. Gucci specialists released designs that incorporated shots of colour afforded by enamel finishes and weaved scintillating diamonds in between the famous horsebit logo to elevate each piece to more luxurious heights. The new releases comprised necklaces and a bracelet, along with an elegant gold-coloured timepiece from Gucci’s watch collection.
The Reworked Horsebit Line
Now, for 2024, the iconic Horsebit motif has been reworked and features in some completely new Gucci jewellery designs. The new releases are offered in 18ct rose gold or 18ct yellow gold and are now more eye-catching than ever before. The 18ct yellow gold versions feature a bolder motif, while the 18ct rose gold versions are somewhat daintier and more refined for those collectors who prefer Gucci’s more understated creations. The mini horsebit featuring in these rose gold versions presents itself alongside a single, glistening diamond. The yellow gold collection comprises three necklaces, three bracelets, two sets of earrings and two ring designs. The rose gold variants comprise one necklace, two bracelets, 2 rings and two sets of earrings.
Yellow Gold Gucci Horsebit Jewellery Designs
The new yellow gold jewellery designs belonging to Gucci’s new Horsebit collection capture the essence of elegant horseback riding. They symbolise freedom, movement and independence. The emblematic horsebit motif is beautifully incorporated into three necklaces. One is a lariat necklace design reference YBB795850001 defined by a rondel holding two ends of the chain together. One of the chains is longer than the other. Both feature the Horsebit motif, beautifully polished for an indulgent finish. The second necklace is the reference YBB795818001 – a single chain measuring 42cm with a suspended horsebit motif hanging from the centre. The third is the reference YBB796833001 – a more luxurious take on the horsebit, featuring a double motif and an added diamond detail, connecting both horsebits together. The chain secures to the back of the neck with a classic lobster-style clasp.
The new Gucci Horsebit earrings in yellow gold are equally as appealing. These designs will pair easily with the necklaces rings or bracelet. One pair of earrings - the reference YBD795656001 - is a drop style, featuring the plain polished horsebit. The other pair is the reference YBD800098001 – a set of studs that are perfect for pairing with understated attire or a work suit.
These evocative designs sit perfectly in line with the values of the Horsebit jewellery collection of previous years. The creations have always been emotive and easy to interpret. They communicate the lifestyle of the equestrian lady but also the strength and endurance of the majestic creature and the way in which both horse and human connect and build a nurturing, loving bond together.
Rose Gold Gucci Horsebit Jewellery Designs
The rose gold interpretations from the new Gucci Horsebit line are elegant, refined and ultra-feminine. They celebrate the story of the Horsebit series and the first sketches of these designs in Gucci’s artisan notebooks inscribed in the 1940s. It was no surprise that this hallmark soon became a signature design in the 1950s. Lady’s were sporting the emblem on handbags, belts, leather goods and, of course, the iconic leather loafer. Recalling the allure of the motif in the first jewellery designs of the 1970s, the new rose gold designs personify femininity and beauty.
The necklace from the rose gold line echoes the same double motif design of the 18ct yellow gold version and features two horsebit motifs meeting in the middle, held together by a diamond-set rondel. The diamond drop earrings, however, are the most beguiling of all. The reference YBD796167001 features a top and bottom horsebit motif, joined together by a polished 18ct rose gold bar adorned with a single diamond centrepiece. The diamond sits in a rub-over setting creating a contemporary finish that will match the other rings and bracelets of the rose gold collection perfectly. The other pair is a set of studs, adorned with a singular diamond in the center.
Gucci has always been known for crafting evocative narratives. It also has a penchant for designing bold, gender-neutral concepts and street-inspired, casual creations. Yet the Horsebit is one design that has never strayed too far from its origins.
