Jewellery & Watch News
TAG Heuer makes history as part of their 2022 Watches & Wonders exhibition with the launch of the new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph. Marked as the brand’s first ever solar-powered watch, the release runs for a whole day off just two minutes of sunlight all thanks to the Caliber TH50-00 developed and produced exclusively for TAG Heuer by the Manufacture of La Joux-Perret.
Since 1987 following the launch of the legendary Heuer Reference 844, TAG Heuer have established a solid reputation for engineering high-performance outdoors watches. From impressive dive instruments to sporty utilitarian pieces, the TAG Heuer Aquaracer collection is home to many of them, defined by their six key design codes: a unidirectional rotating bezel, a screw-down crown, water resistance to at least 200 metres, luminous markings, sapphire crystal glass and a double safety clasp. Now, the series lands its most innovative model to date, the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph. Still upholding its list of must-have features, the 2022 release makes room for another, a rare solar-powered movement which gives the watch a never-ending battery life which never needs to be wound or replaced.
Ideal for nature lovers, sports enthusiasts and simply those that leave the house for at least two minutes a day, the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph is a masterpiece of Swiss manufacture. By harnessing the limitless energy source of the sun, the watch recharges a whole day’s worth of power in just two minutes in full sunlight. When fully charged, whether in sunlight or artificial light, you can expect a power reserve of up to six months. According to TAG Heuer, if the timepiece stops working, all you need to do is expose the dial to light for ten seconds and it will start working again. The self-sufficiency of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph can also be extended for up to 3.5 years using the Power Save mode. The user can turn on the Power Save mode by simply pulling the crown.
Engineering this new movement, named the Calibre TH50-00, is the Manufacture of La Joux-Perret based in La Chaux-de-Fonds. They have developed the solar-powered module exclusively for TAG Heuer and awarded it an extended international warranty up to five years. Hidden behind a screw down case back, the movement is responsible for powering the Superluminova coated hours, minutes and seconds hands and the date window at 3 o’clock placed on the black horizontally grooved dial. The dial of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph continues to impress with a partially transparent aesthetic which allows the sun to penetrate and charge the solar lens beneath. The seconds hand is also purposely decorated in a light blue colour to embody the colours of the aurora borealis that light up the nights above the Artic Circles.
At first glance, the pastel blue seconds hand appears to be the only pop of colour on the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph watch set against the dial and 41mm diameter case finished in black DLC stainless steel. That’s not entirely accurate, however, with the case debuting a unique carbon unidirectional turning bezel decorated with green Superluminova waves which glow brightly at nightfall. The bezel also features a Superluminova 60 minute scale, perfect for use alongside the screwed case back and screw in crown water resistant to 200 metres. Completing the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph watch is sapphire crystal glass with double anti-reflective treatment and a black rubber strap fitted with a black DLC folding buckle.
