Indiana Jones is an “American Classic” film character, starring in five movies and played by the legendary actor Harrison Ford. Another American Classic -one a little more literal – is the Hamilton American Classic watch which has been reinvented in yellow gold PVD with a crisp silver white dial for the latest Indiana Jones film. The new Hamilton American Classic Boulton watch can be seen on the silver screen, strapped to the wrist of our archaeology hero in the fifth and final chapter; Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
Hamilton has an extensive history competing in many industries. They are widely known for their aviation watches and of course, they have no shortage of impressive dive instruments and dress watches in their collection too. Most famously however, Hamilton is known for its connections to Hollywood, having appeared in hundreds of feature films. The first Hamilton watch to make it onto the big screen was a Hamilton Flintridge worn in the 1932 Marlene Dietrich movie Shanghai Express. Since then, we’ve seen legendary Hamilton watches on the wrists of superstars like Elvis Presley in Blue Hawaii, Will Smith in Men in Black and Matthew McConaughey in Interstellar. For their latest movie collaboration, Hamilton has launched the American Classic Boulton watch which will be showcased on Harrison Ford’s wrist in the new Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny film.
The Art Deco-inspired Hamilton American Classic Boulton watch isn’t an obvious choice for the wrist of the action-adventure hero but its 1940’s motivated design certainly fits well with the time period Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is set in. it boasts a stunning oblong case with integrated lugs, gentle curves and soft edges handcrafted from stainless steel with a yellow gold PVD coating. It has an undeniably relaxed, retro vibe helped by the matching golden accents on the dial and the comfortable brown calfskin leather strap.
The case of the Hamilton American Classic Boulton watch measures to 27mm wide and 31.6mm tall with a height of only 7.8mm. It’s a perfect, slip-under-the-cuff dress watch that is barely noticeable on the wrist unless out on display. The golden PVD coating of the case extends across the lugs and non-screw locked crown while the case back is kept clean in uncoated stainless steel. The case also delivers sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment and a 30 metre water resistant rating for protection of the Swiss made quartz movement housed inside.
The quartz movement delivers classic time-only functionality on the dial, including two sword-shaped hands for the hours and minutes and a beautifully snailed small seconds counter at 6 o’clock with its own golden hand. The small seconds dial is outlined in a black printed railway track to match the black printed railway track for the minutes, surrounding the silvery white display. The Hamilton logo is also printed the same way, offering some contrast to the golden hands and vintage-styled numerals.
