The Clogau Tree of Life Jewellery Collection

Jewellery & Watch News

Since their founding in 1989, in the heather clad hills near Snowdonia, Clogau has created enchanting pieces of Welsh gold jewellery inspired by the history and beauty of their home country. The forests of Wales in particular have inspired one of Clogau’s most important collections, the Clogau Tree of Life. This series of breathtaking gold and sterling silver earrings, necklaces, charms, brooches, engagement rings and wedding rings bring to life the magic of Wales’ landscape with tangled branches and leaves intertwining each piece.

The breathtaking landscapes, cascading waterfalls, mountain streams and gladed valleys of Wales are something everyone should see at least once in their lifetime. In the middle of all this beauty lies a mine, known as the Clogau St. David's Gold Mine near Dolgellau, where some of the rarest gold in the world hides. This treasure was mined extensively during the early 1900’s during a period known as the ‘gold rush’ which resulted in it becoming incredibly rare and scarce. Almost because of its rarity, Welsh Gold has taken on an almost magical reputation, one that exudes charm, power and tradition. Embodying that even further is the Clogau Tree of Life jewellery collection, one of the brand’s best-selling and longest standing lines.

In Celtic past, tall trees were believed to be connected to spirits, acting as doorways into other worlds. Their roots were believed to link to the underworld while their branches reached high into the skies and touched the heavens. These giant landmarks became known in Wales as Crann Bethadh, a group’s tree of life, which safeguarded their origins and supplied them with food, shelter and warmth. This chapter in Wales’ history is captured within the Clogau Tree of Life jewellery collection, embodying the tall branches and flora through distinctive Welsh gold leaves and vines.

Each piece of Clogau Tree of Life jewellery is defined by its repeating pattern of interlocking vines and elegant rose gold leaves and petals which wrap around sterling silver bands and pendants. This breathtaking motif conjures up the enchanted spaces of Wales’ forests, and the curiosity, magic and folklore that lies there. Over time, the Clogau Tree of Life jewellery collection has also come to represent where we have come, both Clogau and the wearer, and what our hopes and dreams for the future will eventually manifest into. For this reason, the Clogau Tree of Life rings, bangles, necklaces, and earrings are often gifted to loved ones as a message of hope and success.

Within the main Clogau Tree of Life jewellery collection, you can find several sub-collections to enjoy. One of our personal favourites is the Clogau Tree of Life Initials series which as its name suggests delivers gorgeous pendants and bracelets adorned with the different letters of the alphabet. The line delivers a modern twist on the timeless initial necklace, showcasing handwritten style letters in sterling silver or gold completed by a single Welsh rose gold vine on the tip. Multiple pieces of Clogau Tree of Life Initials jewellery could even be worn together as a showcase of love and union.

Another popular Clogau Tree of Life sub-collection is the Tree of Life Insignia. This series of simple yet powerful designs are all stamped with the iconic Tree of Life motif, the rose gold leaf, whether it be across a statement bangle, a ring, in the centre of a pendant or in some cases, on a leather clad keyring. Further additions to the Clogau Tree of Life jewellery collection include the stunning Tree of Life Heart on occasion opting for additions of white topaz and other coloured gemstones, and the Tree of Life Pearl, which sees the gold and silver vines wrap around iridescent pearls.
