TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Orange Diver Watch Review

Jewellery & Watch News

The orange divers watch remains a staple for collectors offering intense contrast and easy legibility against the blue of the ocean. From the original orange divers, the DOXA Sub, to today’s modern selection from brands like Bell & Ross, Breitling and Seiko, there’s certainly no shortage of impressive underwater instruments to choose from. Now joining the tangerine-coloured family is the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Orange Diver launched as part of the brand’s new portfolio at Watches & Wonders 2022.

The luxury watch brand’s premium diving watch, the TAG Heuer Aquaracer has been a fixture in TAG’s collections since 2004. Before that however, they engineered professional diving watches as early as the 1970’s with the launch Heuer Ref.844. It is this design, with its lume filled markers, ratcheted and rotating bezel and solid steel case, which inspires the launch of the recently released TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 series. Utilising their 40-year long legacy, the Swiss watch manufacturer carefully but cleverly breathe new life into the Aquaracer with this range, offering the signature 12 faceted bezel with higher specifications, contemporary elements, slimmer profiles and octagonal-shaped hour markers. Today that collection expands with the launch of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Orange Diver watch offering all the same spec as its precursors but with a bold orange dial.

The importance of an orange dial is not to be overlooked. DOXA was the very first Swiss manufacturer to utilise a bright orange centrepiece on a diving instrument and its vibrant legibility remains one of the most useful tools for amateur and professional divers alike. The TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Orange Diver watch is no different, offering a bright tangerine dial for easy legibility under the waves. On top of that, the dial also features indexes and hands coated in white Superluminova for additional contrast and glow in the dark capability. The seconds hand is also finished with a white tip and the date window at 6 o’clock retains the familiar integrated magnifier glass.

Standing out among the traditional austere black dials of wristwatches intended to go below the waves, the vibrant shade of orange has made a number of appearances in the TAG Heuer Diving universe over years, and it’s a pleasure to see it return in the new Aquaracer Professional 300.”

For the case of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Orange Diver, all the same elements of last year’s Professional 300 series remain including the legendary 12-sided unidirectional bezel. Decorated with a 60 minute scale, a must-have tool for diving, the bezel is fitted with a scratch resistant black ceramic ring which then extends out into a 43mm stainless steel case. There are fine-brushed and polished finishing across the architecture including polished chamfers and lugs which sit nice and low on the wrist for a comfortable finish. The crown at 3 o’clock is also engineered from stainless steel and screws in for a 300 metre water resistance. The TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Orange also presents scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass, a screw down case back and a three-row link steel bracelet with a fine adjustment system.

Powering the new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Orange Diver watch is the popular Calibre 5 movement, a Swiss made calibre based on the tried-and-tested Sellita SW200-1. It welcomes 26 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz) and a 38-hour power reserve. Functions include central hands for the hours, minutes and hacking seconds and a date window at 6 o’clock.
