Sinn have already taken 2022 by storm. Following the colourful series of 556 models and a 25th anniversary EZM 1.1S Limited Edition, the German watch manufacturer now unveils the Sinn U50 S BS with a new gradient dial and black hard coated case engineered using the brand’s famous TEGIMENT technology.
There’s a reason why the Sinn U50 is one of the brand’s best-selling lines. Launched only two years ago, the design is engineered with divers in mind, both professional and amateur alike, offering impressive water resistant ratings, German Submarine Steel cases and scratch resistant properties. The original release sold incredibly fast and favoured tastes of every kind offering full-steel models, black bezel options and all-black cases. Each opted for a matte black dial dressed in bold red accents. Shortly after, Sinn launched the limited edition U50 S Mother of Pearl with a shimmering centrepiece dial and all-black case. Now, we’re welcomed to yet another addition, the Sinn U50 S BS, a limited edition of 500 pieces debuting a blue and black gradient dial.
As its defining feature, let’s start by looking at the dial of the Sinn U50 S BS Limited Edition. For the first time, the U50 model is presented with a stunning gradient centre which begins as a rich nautical blue at the middle and fades out into black around the edges. The finish is stunning with the black edge transitioning nicely into the matching black bezel and case. The dial also welcomes luminescent hands for the hours, minutes and seconds and matching glow in the dark indices. Whereas the original Sinn U50 boasted bright red accents, this pop of colour is swapped out for more classic monochromatic stylings.
The case of the Sinn U50 S BS watch retains all the premium specifications of its precursor. The 41mm housing is engineered from high-strength seawater-resistant German Submarine Steel which, as those who are already familiar with U50 family will know, offers incredible strength and non-magnetic properties making it perfect for diving. The case also features a captive rotating bezel detailed with a white 60 minute scale, a screw fastened case back, screw in crown and sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment on both sides.
A huge selling point to many, the Sinn U50 S BS Limited Edition features a black hard coating which has been manufactured using Sinn’s TEGIMENT technology. This means the case ensures even greater protection against scratches. On top of that, the wristwatch been put through its paces by the DNV, an independent classification company. In doing so, it has been rated water resistant to 500 metres and meets the standards for temperature resistance and functionality in accordance with the European diving equipment standards.
The workhouse behind the Sinn U50 S BS is the SW300-1 self-winding movement. It’s the same calibre used to power previous U50 watches and promises a power reserve of 42 hours and a frequency of 28,800 semi-oscillations per hour. There’s also 25 bearing jewels and a promise of anti-magnetism as per DIN 8390. The Sinn limited edition is then completed by a choice of a black hard coated bracelet or a waterproof black rubber strap.
