The Tonda PF watch collection from Parmigiani Fleurier has been a huge success since its launch in 2021 and has ultimately paved the way for the Swiss watchmaker’s noticeable comeback. The series is host to a stunning range of luxury integrated sports watches with knurled bezels, grain d’orge dials and seamlessly integrated bracelets. Now following on from its success, Parmigiani Fleurier has combined all of these elements with some the sporty characteristics of the Tonda GT line. Let us introduce to you the new Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Sport watch collection and the selection of time-and-date and chronograph models available.
So what’s new? The most obvious change to the new Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Sport watches compared to their dressier counterparts is the knurled bezel. It’s still knurled but technically less so, offering only 160 inclusions compared to the 225 on the regular Tonda PF watches. This slight change makes the bezel feel bolder somehow, and rather than being crafted from 950 platinum, it is crafted from stainless steel or 18ct rose gold like the rest of the case. The cases of the chronograph variants are also a little bigger, measuring to 42mm wide and 12.9mm thick compared to the 41mm diameter and 9.8mm height of the regular Tonda PF. The cases of the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Sport watches still offer sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating and a 100 metre water resistance assisted by a screw in crown and screw down case back.
The dials of the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Sport watches are also slightly different. Replacing the signature grain d’orge hand-guilloché pattern of the Tonda PF, the crisp white displays are now printed with clou triangulaire guilloché decoration. The applied indexes have also been shortened and black Superluminova is now utilised on the indices and tips of the hour and minute hands. For the first time, the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Sport watches also introduce rubber straps into the Tonda PF collection. The straps have a textile-like finish and close by stainless steel or 18ct rose gold folding buckles depending on the case material you choose.
As mentioned, there are four variations of the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Sport watch to choose from: a time-and-date-only model and a chronograph, each done in either stainless steel or 18ct rose gold. The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Sport Automatic is the most classic of the two. It shares the dimensions the previous Tonda PF watches, sitting at 41mm wide and 9.1mm tall. It delivers its time-and-date functionality using the Calibre PF70. The 179-part in-house automatic winding movement impresses with a power reserve of 60 hours and a frequency of 28,800vph. You can admire the movement with its skeletonised, sandblasted rotor through the case back.
The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Sport Chronograph watches are the most obvious relation to the Tonda GT collection. The white clou triangulaire guilloche dials are adorned with contrasting black counters for the popular “panda chronograph” look. The counters include the 12 hours at 9 o’clock, 30 minutes at 3 o’clock and small seconds at 6 o’clock, all left smooth and leaving room room for a date window between 4 and 5 o’clock. As mentioned, the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Sport Chronograph’s case is a little larger than normal, measuring to 42mm wide and 12.9mm thick and inside you have the Calibre PF070 automatic integrated chronograph movement with a column wheel and vertical clutch. The 315-part movement has a high frequency of 36,000vph and a 65-hour power reserve. It is also chronometer-certified, displayed through the case back and features a solid gold rotor inspired by 1960’s Ferrari 250 GTO’s steering wheel.
