A Brief History of Coeur de Lion Jewellery
Designer and founder of Coeur de Lion, Carola Eckrodt, fell in love with jewellery design and manufacture at a young age. As a teenager, she started to create pieces using rare and unconventional materials like industrial parts found in cars. Then in 1987, she exhibited her first collection at the Avantgarde exhibition in Munich, showcasing designs made from components like gearbox parts, rubber, petrol hoses, and alloy steel. Taking notice of Eckrodt’s unique prowess for design, Dusseldorf-based couturier Hanns Friedrichs brought the entire collection and as such, the Coeur de Lion jewellery brand was formed.
As the years passed, Coeur de Lion remained at the forefront of innovation becoming the first German company to work diamond-cut anodised aluminium into glittering jewellery. The materials used also evolved to include glass, acrylic and lucite combining beautifully with the original stainless steel and aluminium parts. Finally, Swarovski crystals were incorporated to add some sparkle to the mix. In 1999, the now-famous Coeur de Lion GEOCUBE jewellery collection was launched, taking inspiration from Bauhaus stylings and revealing bold colours and shapes for a timeless look. More recently, Coeur de Lion has been at the centre of Germany’s most coveted jewellery award shows selected for the German Design Award for 2018 and the German Brand Award for 2016, 2019, and 2022.
The Coeur de Lion Jewellery Collections
