The Montblanc Muses Elizabeth Taylor Special Edition collection pays tribute to one of the most influential women of the 20th century, Dame Elizabeth Taylor. From the moment she was a child, she began a career as an actress eventually becoming one of the most popular stars of classical Hollywood cinema in the 1950’s. But it wasn’t just her on-screen performances alone that inspired the masses. Her beauty, unwavering compassion, style and off-screen activism encouraged generations of women to be their very best. She led movies like Cleopatra and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and forced the world to recognise important issues like the AIDS pandemic all while dominating media headlines for her romances and dramatic private life, establishing her fragrance business, and growing her own jewellery collection. It is her poise, energy, confidence, and grace that is honoured today in the new Montblanc Muses Elizabeth Taylor Special Edition collection.
There are three Montblanc Muses Elizabeth Taylor pens to choose from, a rollerball pen, a fountain pen and a ballpoint pen. Each piece brings to life the aesthetic of the 1950’s and 60’s with a dark violet marbleised lacquer cap and barrel, a shade which pays homage to both Elizabeth Taylor’s favourite colour and the tone of her stunning eyes. The star was also famed for owning one of the most important private jewellery collections in the world which included the historically important 33.19 carat Elizabeth Taylor Diamond ring which was gifted to her by Richard Burton. Her love of jewellery is beautifully immortalised in each Montblanc Muses Elizabeth Taylor pen with a ring-shaped clip placed on the cap of the design. The platinum coated cone with it’s geometric engraving also recalls a popular jewellery pattern seen in the 1950’s.
On top of her beauty, confidence, wealth and stature, Dame Elizabeth Taylor was known for her trailblazing humanitarianism. During the 1980’s, she campaigned extensively for the research, treatment and support of people living with HIV/AIDS. In 1985, she co-founded the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR), now The Foundation for AIDS Research, and then six years later established The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF). In honour of her fighting against AIDS more than any other public figure at that time, the Montblanc Muses Elizabeth Taylor fountain pen features a special engraving on the Au 585 solid gold rhodium-coated nib with three words from her speech at the GLAAD Media Awards in 2000: “LONG LIVE LOVE”. The base of all three pens are also engraved with the star’s signature.
