Jewellery & Watch News

When one thinks of pearl jewellery, Mikimoto is a brand that always comes to mind. Their expertise in handcrafting breathtaking pearl necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings has never wavered since their founding in 1893 and women all around the world remain mesmerised by the iridescent beauty of every piece. As expected, Mikimoto continues to uphold its untouchable legacy with even more arrivals for the year 2021. Let’s take a look at all the new Mikimoto 2021 jewellery collections...

“My dream is to adorn the necks of all women around the world with pearls.” - Kokichi Mikimoto

Mikimoto Japanese Sense of Beauty Jewellery Collection

One concept Mikimoto has chosen to focus on over the last few years is their High Jewellery collections, a series of pieces that tempt our tastes for opulence dressed in precious gemstones alongside mesmerising cultured pearls. For 2021, Mikimoto have launched a brand new high jewellery collection named the “The Japanese Sense of Beauty” designed to celebrate the aesthetic sensibilities of their Japanese heritage. The collection has also been launched alongside supermodel Ai Tominaga in a special movie which you can view here.

The Mikimoto Japanese Sense of Beauty jewellery collection brings to life the beautiful scenery and patterns found in Japan with elaborate brooches inspired by the waterfalls depicted in ukiyo-e landscapes and unique necklaces and earrings embodying the stylized wave pattern, seigaiha (blue ocean waves), which had originally been used in China and later introduced to Japan via the Silk Road. We particularly love the Mikimoto Japanese Sense of Beauty brooches which express the energy of a waterfall running through 18 carat gold tassels adorned with pearls and gemstones.

Mikimoto Feather Jewellery Collection

Next up in the Mikimoto 2021 Jewellery Collections is the Japanese jewellery manufacturer’s Feather series. Mikimoto Feather jewellery has been designed to represent the ideas of beauty and grace, the epitome of elegance for every women and our missions to grow wings and fly higher than everyone else. Compared to the Japanese Sense of Beauty above, these pieces are much simpler, more affordable and worthy of everyday wear and yet they are no less spectacular adorned with Akoya cultured pearls and dazzling diamonds.

We can’t take our eyes away from the Mikimoto Feather pendant. The graceful feather motif hangs elegantly from a 50cm long 18 carat white gold chain and is decorated in a total of 0.47 carats diamonds. The feather then curls around a single 7.5mm Akoya cultured pearl ultimately asserting itself as a Mikimoto creation. The same feather design is also available in a pair of drop earrings and a statement ring, all handcrafted from white gold and demanding attention with pearls and diamonds.

Mikimoto Jeux de Rubans Jewellery Collection

Technically the Mikimoto Jeux de Rubans jewellery collection wasn’t launched in 2021, but just in case you hadn’t seen it already, we thought we best pop it on the end of this feature! It’s not one you want to miss. Another from their High jewellery range, Mikimoto Jeux de Rubans jewellery has already captured the hearts of many around the world for its spellbinding motif of ribbons decorated in diamonds and Akoya cultured pearls. The symbol of the ribbon takes on many meanings to different wearers. For us, we are reminded of the innocence of childhood and the way ribbons in our hair would chase us from behind as we ran freely. For others, it’s a symbol of sophistication, elegance and grace.

The Mikimoto Jeux de Rubans jewellery collection is currently home to an unmissable selection of necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings, each combining the waves and soft curves of the ribbon with Mikimoto’s unbridled creativity and enchanting appeal. One of the most breathtaking pieces within the Mikimoto Jeux de Rubans jewellery collection is the Mikimoto Jeux de Rubans bracelet. This captivating piece includes a string of Akoya cultured pearls set with a dazzling diamond decorated ribbon motif. The pearl chain is long enough that it can be wrapped twice around the wrist or once around the neck, changing the contemporary wristwear into an elegant neck piece.
