Meet the new Garmin Instinct 2X Solar Smartwatch for 2023

Jewellery & Watch News

Of all the Garmin smartwatches of recent years, the Garmin Instinct has been one of their most influential as a durable, outdoor GPS instrument. This time last year, the smartwatch manufacturer launched the design into its second generation with a range of Garmin Instinct 2 and Instinct 2S watches equipped with a smaller case size option, new sports apps, a higher resolution display and a solar-powered movement. Now joining these models is the new Garmin Instinct 2X Solar, debuting the largest Instinct case yet and an integrated flashlight feature.

What’s New for the Garmin Instinct 2X Solar Smartwatch?

The Garmin Instinct has always been a fairly sizeable watch with the standard Instinct 2 model measuring to 45mm in diameter and the smaller Garmin Instinct 2S sitting on the wrist at 40mm. For the new Garmin Instinct 2X Solar smartwatch however, the fibre-reinforced polymer case comes in bigger than ever at a whopping 50mm wide. It also has a 14.5mm height and weighs in at 76 grams. The ultra-tough case is still tested to U.S. military 810 standards for thermal, shock and water resistance, the latter rated to 100 metres, and is secured to the wrist by a silicon strap. There are currently four Garmin Instinct 2X Solar watches to choose from in Graphite, Flame Red, Moss Green and Whitestone.

Another huge addition to the Garmin Instinct 2X Solar smartwatch is the integrated flashlight feature which is cleverly hidden at the side of the case behind a diffused transparent lens. With a simple tap of the button, two LED lights will illuminate the ground in front of you so you can always find your way in the dark. The design works no matter whether you sport your watch on your left or right wrist and comes with several customisable settings. You can choose from white or red light; the red mode of the flashlight has been specifically designed to be used during emergency and can be used alongside SOS mode. This life-saving feature will allow you to signal for help should you ever find yourself in trouble and will display information about the user and their emergency contact on the watch display.

Additional Features of the Garmin Instinct 2X Solar Smartwatch

Like the Garmin Instinct 2 watches from last year, the Garmin Instinct 2X Solar smartwatch still utilises the brand’s famous Power Lens for solar-powered charging. In fact, the new designs produces 50% more energy than the Instinct 2 Solar with an unlimited battery life with solar when in smartwatch mode, Max Battery GPS mode, Expedition GPS Activity mode and Battery Saver Watch Mode. We’re also promised 145 hours of charge in GPS mode with solar and 36 hours in solar when using all satellite systems plus multi-band navigation.

The new Garmin Instinct 2X Solar watches are also joined by all the classic functionality as previous Instinct models including GPS tracking, Multi-GNSS support, ABC sensors, TracBack® routing and Reference Point. You can also be motivated by fitness features like a wrist based heart rate monitor, VO2 Max, Pulse Ox2, Fitness Age, Training Status/Load/Effect, HRV Status, and Recovery Time as well as wellness features like advanced sleep monitoring, stress tracking and hydration tracking. There’s also smart notifications, safety and tracking features and the contactless payment solution known as Garmin Pay.
