Jewellery & Watch News
After British watch manufacturer Bremont announced the launch of their first in-house movement last year alongside the Bremont Longitude Limited Edition it debuted in, it left many of us timepiece aficionados waiting in anticipation for more. A year later and we have it with the Bremont H1 Generation watch collection, a series of non-limited 40mm men’s watches powered by the ENG300 manufacture movement series. Alongside the Bremont Fury and the Bremont Audley, we’re treated to the luxury watch brand’s first ever integrated sports watch: the Bremont Supernova.
The luxury sports watch is at the height of popularity right now. Whether it’s the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, the Patek Philippe Nautilus or the Maurice Lacroix Aikon, the integrated architecture of these watches is undeniably beautiful and as such, immensely popular with watch collectors. And yet it’s a genre of watch that Bremont had yet to explore, focusing predominantly on their extensive portfolio of pilot’s watches. That was until last week, when the British brand announced a new series of Bremont Supernova watches. According to Bremont, the development of the integrated bracelet and case took no less than three years to perfect. Their in-house engineers had to manufacture the design within extremely tight tolerances to make sure the overall style was absolutely right.
Bremont Co-Founder Nick English speaks on the Bremont Supernova watch: “Not only have we had the challenges with scaling up the movement production here in the UK, but we have had to further invest in our case finishing to be able to build the new Supernova, whose final finishing transcends the norm of luxury watchmaking. There are very few watch companies able to build high -quality watch cases in-house and it is clear to us why this is so often the situation.”
In the press release for the Bremont H1 Generation watch collection, the brand describes how they had to invest heavily in a whole range of tooling and software development to advance new machining techniques and expand the knowledge of their already highly skilled engineering and manufacturing team. It’s safe to say the final result was worth it. The Bremont Supernova is an outstanding example of luxury integrated design boasting beautiful curves and angles, polished geometry and sharp facets.
The 40mm stainless steel case remains engineered using the brand’s famous Trip-Tick case construction but one that has been evolved through nine key design revisions to achieve the refined finish. On the wrist, the Bremont Supernova watch feels amazing, soft to the touch and when the light hits the polished angles, you’ll get a wonderful play of light. The lugs alone are a thing of beauty, faceted with a new signature Bremont detail and dressed in concentric decoration lines that run around the central barrel and travel towards the fluted screw down crown. We’re also warranted a 100-metre water resistant rating and flat sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment. Completing the stainless-steel frame is the new integrated bracelet. The Bremont Supernova’s bracelet features a t-link construction with solid angular links and brushed and polished facets. The strap fastens by a branded butterfly deployment clasp engraved with the Bremont propeller logo.
There are three Bremont Supernova watches to choose from each with their own distinctive dial layout. There’s Midnight Blue, Pitch Black and Albus White. The former is the only model to elect baton indexes while the latter two opt for large Arabic numerals. All three boast a classic Bremont raised centre section, Superluminova coated propeller-shaped hour and minute hands and a sunken big date complication at 3 o’clock. We’re also treated to a sporty power reserve indicator at 6 o’clock which displays the 65 hour power reserve given to us by the ENG375 in-house automatic winding movement.
As with all the releases in the Bremont H1 Generation watch collection, the ENG375 movement is tested using Bremont’s H1 Timing Standard, a testing method comparable to the ISO3159:2009 Chronometer examination. It comes protected by a rubber anti-shock movement mount for incredible durability, 22 jewels and a silicon escape wheel. The decoration is just as breathtaking with the Bremont-decorated tungsten rotor, rhodium plated bridges with gold plated automatic bridge put on display through the Bremont Supernova watch’s exhibition case back.
