Finally, us ladies have a luxury integrated sports watch worthy of our wrists following the fresh launch of the Breitling Super Chronomat 38 watch collection. It’s the first time a diamond bezel and a 38-millimetre case joins the Super Chronomat family and with diamonds accents, ceramic rider tabs and Rouleaux bracelets, these Breitling women’s watches may be some of the most opulent yet.
Last year Breitling announced the launch of their new Super Chronomat collection which aimed to breathe life back into a historic watch from the 1980’s. The original Chronomat watch was based on a timepiece designed for the Italian Air Force’s aerobatic fleet in 1983 known as the Frecce Tricolori watch. It was largely defined by its unique interchangeable rider tabs on the bezel and its tube-like linked bracelet nicknamed “Rouleaux”. The Breitling Super Chronomat watches unveiled last year revived this very aesthetic, becoming the brand’s latest all-purpose sports watch that was just as sophisticated as it was robust. There were several variations to choose from including classic B01-powered chronographs, 4 Year Calendar watches and a single fascinating model with a UTC module embedded into the stainless steel Rouleaux bracelet. Missing from the series however was a lady’s watch, something with a touch of feminine elegance to counter the masculine architecture. With the new Breitling Super Chronomat 38 Ladies watches, we’re given exactly that.
The biggest difference between the new Breitling Super Chronomat 38 Ladies watches and all those before it is the case. Now measuring to 38 millimetres in diameter, it’s the perfect size for women that like statement timepieces or even men or want something with a bit of sparkle. The cases are crafted from polished stainless steel and boast screw down case backs with a blank centre leaving room for an engraving and a distinctive onion fluted crown tipped in blue or green ceramic protected by crown guards. We’re also warranted sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment and a 100 metre water resistant rating.
Another defining feature of the Breitling Super Chronomat 38 Ladies watch is the bezel. For the first time, diamonds are utilised on the Super Chronomat bezel which comes engineered from stainless steel on the icy blue dial or 18 carat rose gold on the mint green display. There are 32 oversized lab grown white diamonds placed on the bezel with each 8 interrupted by colourful rider tabs in ceramic. The coloured ceramic matches the colour of the dial and the ceramic used on the fluted crown.
As mentioned, there are two dial colours to choose from when shopping the Breitling Super Chronomat 38 Ladies watch. The ice blue dial comes with the full stainless steel architecture and blue ceramic accents alongside matching silvered hardware for the hours, minutes, seconds and date. The applied indexes are also silvered and kept bare, an interesting choice for a diamond-decorated piece. The mint green Breitling Super Chronomat 38 Ladies watch follows suit, instead opting for the rose gold bezel, green ceramic accents and gold-plated metal for the hands and indexes.
Powering all the Breitling Super Chronomat 38 Ladies watches is the Breitling Calibre 17 self-winding mechanical movement. As with all the movements used by Breitling, the Calibre 17 is COSC-certified, taking its base from the Swiss engineered ETA 2824-2. Alongside the hours, minutes, seconds and date complications, we’re promised a power reserve of 38 hours, 26 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour.
Completing each dial colour of the Breitling Super Chronomat 38 Ladies watch is a choice of three straps. The ice blue dial elects the distinctive Rouleaux bracelet in stainless steel, a blue rubber strap engineered in the same fashion as the bracelet or a sophisticated blue alligator leather strap. The mint green display offers much of the same, a Rouleaux bracelet but one with 18 carat rose gold central links, a green rubber band or a green alligator leather strap.
