In what could be one of the greatest collaborations between two British watch brands, Bremont and the Bamford Watch Department fuse their outstanding manufacture to launch the Bremont S500 Bamford watch. Limited to only 250 pieces, the design not only reimagines Bremont’s iconic Supermarine model with a rare California dial but marks the beginning of a new, and hopefully long-lasting partnership, between Bremont Co-Founders Nick and Giles English and George Bamford.
C W Sellors became proud stockists of Bamford watches back in 2019, but before then, the luxury watch department was less focused on creating their own collections of timepieces but customising existing ones. After realising so many others wore the same Rolex Daytona as him, Georg Bamford founded the Bamford Watch Department in 2004 and quickly became a household name by applying black DLC coatings to well-known luxury watches. He soon secured his own collaborations with high-end names and eventually launched the first Bamford watch collection, the Mayfair. Shortly after, the Bamford Mayfair Sport and Bamford London GMT watches joined the brand’s portfolio and ever since, the department has gone from strength to strength. Now, in what might be their greatest partnership yet, Bamford Watch Department joins forces with British watch manufacturer Bremont for the launch of the Bremont S500 Bamford Limited Edition.
The foundation for the new Bremont S500 Bamford watch is Bremont’s famous S500 Supermarine model. The Bremont Supermarine was originally launched in 2009 and marked the brand’s first ever mechanical dive watch. For the last two decades, this collection has upheld Nick and Giles English’s love of British aviation, tributing specifically the the Supermarine S6B Schneider Trophy Seaplane and the incredible Supermarine Spitfire, the latter of which is engraved on the case back of every design – including this limited edition. The Bremont S500 Bamford watch stands out from its precursors however for its stealthy black DLC coated case and unmissable California dial, a design first for both Bremont and Bamford.
“The S500 Supermarine is an icon of our brand and it’s been hugely exciting collaborating with George to produce this special edition. Projects such as this provide so much design inspiration and it’s been an incredibly natural process with George sharing so many of the same interests, from aviation to automobiles and vintage military timepieces. We’re proud to be pioneering a British watch collaboration of this sort and we’re equally as proud of the result, a watch that sublimely fuses the Bremont and Bamford design aesthetic.” – Bremont Co-Founder, Nick English
George Bamford, founder of Bamford Watch Dept comments, “I have known Nick and Giles for a while now and we became firm friends when I was moving into my Mayfair ‘Hive’ office 7 years ago and they were parking a very cool Jaguar in a car park opposite. I always said we should do something together and this project feels so right. Our signature black with a raised ceramic bezel and unique arrow hand, as well as the California dial, work so well on one of their iconic watches. I love the California dial and the integration of two styles. I feel it represents the blend of two British brands working together. Also using what feels like a military blue, it emulates the crossover and bringing together of Bamford Watch Department and Bremont.”
Starting with the case, the Bremont S500 Bamford Limited Edition presents a 43mm stainless steel housing coated with a scratch resistant DLC treatment, a characteristic of many Bamford watches. The case also delivers a matching black ceramic insert bezel with a raised 60 minute scale and unidirectional functionality, a screw in crown and crown protector, automatic helium escape valve, domed sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating and a water resistance of 500 metres. Matching the case is a black dial set with large matte black hands, large Roman numerals and horizontal indexes all enhanced by ‘California Blue’ Superluminova.
Powering the central hands for hours, minutes and seconds hands is the COSC-certified Calibre BE-36AE, an automatic winding movement capable of a 38 hour power reserve and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Completing the Bremont S500 Bamford watch is a black sailcloth strap with blue side stitching and a matching DLC coated stainless steel pin buckle.
