Introducing the New Breitling Chronomat B01 42 Triumph Watch

Jewellery & Watch News

Breitling reveals a high-spec titanium and 18ct rose gold Chronomat watch designed in collaboration with Triumph

The whole idea of the “Café Racer” culture conjures images of greasers leathered up on bikes “modded” up for quickness, with flat stripped or chrome fuel tanks and one-man back seats. It has become a scene in itself, a culture that originated in the 1950s and 1960s but never fizzled out. Those who enjoy bikes are likely to have dipped into their wallet for a luxury watch or two. The idea of measuring laps or working out the ETA of the next café stop is a somewhat important part of the itinerary, which is where a watch from Breitling comes in quite handy, especially if you’re eyeing up the new Speed Triple RR model released by Triumph as a collaborative design between itself and the famed watchmaker. Just 270 of these bikes are available, accompanying the new core range Breitling Chronomat B01 42 Triumph watch.

The collaboration is not the first. In fact, the maison has been partnering with the UK-based motorcycle manufacturer for two years now. Since 2022, the watchmaker and UK brand has been specialising in creating stylish instruments that blend the functional and practical needs of the watch wearer with the speed and precision of the biker. The latest release is one that combines lightweight titanium hardware with elegant 18ct rose gold finishes and several subtle nods to the collaboration throughout its 42mm design. If you’re pondering whether to go full throttle and buy both the limited edition motorbike and the timepiece, now is the time to do it. The timepieces are expected to shift from the shelves faster than the new roadster’s 1160cc triple engine itself. You can start by enquiring here at C W Sellors, but for now, we’re delighted to show you the first sneak peek of the timepiece here in store.

Fine-Tuned to Heighten the Riding Experience

Both the new engine and the Breitling Chronomat B01 42 Triumph watch are fine-tuned to heighten the riding experience out on the road. The new releases combine the latest technology from both parties with the watch bearing subtle nods to the partnership throughout its design. The new Chronomat watch points to the beginnings of Willy Breitling’s love for life on the road. Motorcycles were used to transport bikers from one café to the next during the 1960s and the Top Time watch was a timepiece designed to capture the speed-driven style of the day. It soon became the watch of choice for those living the lifestyle, thanks to its eye-catching dial design and bold proportions. Speaking of the Top Time watch, one of the collaborative efforts between Breitling and Triumph was through a Top Time watch design. But this latest release leans on the solid, iconic design of the Chronomat.

The New Breitling Chronomat B01 42 Triumph Watch

First thing’s first – the Chronomat B01 42 Triumph watch will become part of the watchmaker’s core range. It’s a fusion of state-of-the-art materials and crowd-winning design language. The two pioneering brands certainly do a fine job of capturing the essence of freedom and speed in this design with a unique Triumph carbon dial, a specially engraved caseback, and an authentic motorbike leather-inspired band.

The anthracite colour of the dial is a specific shade that is intended to echo the dark grey tones of the motorcycle, while the front forks of Speed Triple 1200 RR are echoed in the elegant rose gold tones seen in the trim of the bezel, the crown, and the polished push pieces. Operating the stopwatch features of this new Breitling Chronomat chronograph is easy and enjoyable, just as one would expect of any Breitling chronograph. The 2 o’clock push-piece activates a timing and stops it on a second activation. The 4 o’clock push piece resets the hands for a new timing. Of course, while using these feature’s you’ll be admiring the counterweight of the chronograph on the second hand, fashioned into the Triumph shield logo. Meanwhile, the chronograph counters laid out at 3, 6 and 9 o‘clock are filled with a rich black colour, enabling them to stand out perfectly against the anthracite shades of the main dial. A 30-minute counter and 12-hour totaliser resume their usual places at 3 and 6 o’clock respectively, while the small second counter sits at 9 o’clock. The dial also benefits from plenty of Super-LumiNova on the rose gold central hands and baton hour markers, as well as a date window nestled inside the 6 o’clock sub-dial. A tachymeter scale frames the hour track around the periphery of the dial, adorned with the letters “For the Ride”.

Turning the new Breitling Chronomat B01 42 Triumph watch over will reveal a “Triumph Edition” engraving, alongside a see-through exhibition window crafted from sapphire crystal glass. This window to the soul reveals the workings of the in-house B01 movement, embellished with the same decorative elements as seen in the 2022 Navitimer. The movement performs at a rate of 28,00 vibrations per hour and produces a power reserve of 70 hours once fully wound. It also promises an accuracy of -4/+6 seconds per day and is COSC-certified.

Georges Kerns, CEO of Breitling expresses his excitement over the new Breitling Triumph Chronomat release;

“The Chronomat and the Speed Triple 1200 RR exemplify our joint devotion to the highest standards of design and performance. With Triumph, we share a rugged spirit that combines artistry with adventure.”

Nick Bloor, CEO of Triumph, echoes these feelings;

“Teaming up with Breitling, we’ve united two worlds, delivering our shared passions for precision, speed, and impeccable style.”

The perforated leather strap is worth mentioning in this design because it is the same creation that the Italian aerobatics team Frecce Tricolori in 1983 were treated to. If you preferred something a little more classic, however, you can choose the alligator leather band in brown. Both straps secure to the wrist with a folding clasp forged from titanium, engraved with the Breitling logo.
