Jewellery & Watch News
During the summer of last year, DOXA relaunched their legendary Sub 600T watch as a limited edition, nicknamed the DOXA Sub 600T Pacific. It was unsurprisingly a huge success with all 200 pieces selling out in less than three days and as you’d expect, fans of DOXA watches have been eagerly anticipating when a non-limited revival would be released. That day has come with DOXA introducing a permanent collection of Sub 600T Steel watches.
When it comes to diving watches, there is certainly no shortage of choice but one brand that has always been defined as a cult classic is DOXA. The Swiss watch manufacturer gained its reputation during the 1960’s when it produced its first range of professional diving instruments. The DOXA Sub 300 was, and arguably still is, their pinnacle design brought to life by colourful dials, tonneau-shaped cases and decompression scale bezels. Later on, during the 1980’s, DOXA then launched a more aggressive-looking instrument with a sharper case shape nicknamed the 600T. In more recent years, the reference has been missing from the brand’s portfolio until recently with the launch of the Pacific Limited Edition and now the new collection of DOXA Sub 600T Steel watches.
Just like the original 1980 Doxa Sub 600T watches, the new steel collection presents a more compact and utiliarian profile than the rounded Sub 300 measuring in at 40mm in diameter with sharp surfaces, angular lugs and flat case sides. Highlighting these angles is bright polishing on the case chamfers and on top, we have the hallmark ratcheted bezel detailed with a decompression scale. The Doxa Sub 600T Steel collection allows you to choose from two bezel types, the first is an engraved insert in stainless steel and the second comes in ceramic. For the latter, the majority of the models opt for black ceramic other than the Caribbean model which chooses a navy blue insert to match its dial. The bezels deliver the familiar functionality of its predecessors with colourful dial-matching accents and a large luminous triangle marker at 12 o’clock. As their name suggests, the Doxa Sub 600T Steel watches deliver an impressive water resistant rating of 600 metres helped by a screw in crown at the 4 o’clock position and a solid case back. The case back is completed by an engraving of the brand’s famous fish logo set against a backdrop of waves.
As for the dials of the Doxa Sub 600T Steel watches, there are six colours to choose from. We have the legendary orange-dialled Professional, the silver Searambler, black Sharkhunter, navy Caribbean, yellow Divingstar and turquoise Aquamarine. On each is large luminous sword-shaped hands for the hours and minutes, a square-shaped lollipop-style seconds hand and bold pointed indexes at the main 12, 6 and 9 positions. For the rest of the hour markers, the dial opts for rounded indices. All of these features are decorated in glow in the dark Superluminova. The dials are then paired with either a FKM integrated rubber strap in its retrospective colour (other than the silver Searambler which opts for a black strap) or a three-row stainless steel bracelet with folding buckle and diving extension.
Hidden inside each Doxa Sub 600T watch is the well-known Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement. Alongside the hours, minutes, seconds and date complication at 3 o’clock, the Swiss Made calibre promises a power reserve of 38 hours, frequency of 28,800vph and a total of 26 jewels.
