Swiss watchmaker Breitling and British motorcycle manufacturer Triumph announce a new long-term partnership and with it the limited edition Breitling Top Time Triumph watch which has been launched alongside a customized motorcycle to be revealed in early 2022.
The revival of the Breitling Top Time watch in 2020 made way for some of the brand’s best-selling designs of the last few years. The Top Time was first launched back in 1960 by Willy Breitling who aimed to attract the wrists of young and active professionals looking for ultra-modern chronographs with bold proportions and a sporty temperament. Then two years ago, Breitling relaunched the aesthetic with the Premier Top Time Limited Edition and its distinctive black “Zorro” dial and striking red accents. Becoming a collector’s favourite, we then saw the Deux Top Time Limited Edition launched in partnership with Australian lifestyle brand Deus Ex Machina and more recently, the Premier Classic Cars collection. All retro in design and contemporary in technology, these releases now welcome a new auto-racing inspired model, the Breitling Top Time Triumph watch which has been unveiled in partnership with British motorcycle manufacturer Triumph.
“Triumph’s heritage and modern-retro aesthetic are just two of the many things we have in common,” said Georges Kern, CEO of Breitling. “Their blending of tradition with technology is completely in sync with what we do.”
Alongside the release of 270 co-branded motorcycles named the Speed Twin Breitling Limited Edition, Breitling are launching two variations of the Breitling Top Time Triumph watch. The first is a limited edition available only when purchasing the bike. It features a sunray dial and an engraved case back with the individual number of the motorcycle. The second is available on the C W Sellors website and features the same icy blue “Zorro” dial. This rare colour takes inspiration from two major references, a blue Triumph Thunderbird 6T from 1951 and a historic blue-dialled Breitling Top Time Ref. 815 from the 1970s. The dial also features concentrically grooved black subsidary counters with white baton hands, a black on white tachymeter scale for clear legibility of speed readings and the Triumph logo at 6 o’clock.
As for the case of the Breitling Top Time Triumph watch, we’re welcomed to the same understated 41mm stainless steel architecture with oversized mushroom pushers for the easy stop-start and reset of the chronograph complication and convex sapphire crystal glass with glareproof treatment on both sides. The case also sits at 14.27mm high and offers a 30 metre water resistant rating, non-screw locked crown and a snapped stainless steel case back. Each case back is also etched with a detailed design sketch of Triumph’s parallel twin engine.
“This collaboration is born out of a shared philosophy of bold and original design. The Top Time Triumph brings that uncompromising style and craftsmanship together.” - Triumph CEO Nick Bloor
Powering the Breitling Top Time Triumph watch is the Breitling Calibre 23 automatic winding movement which like all Breitling watches is COSC certified. The movement also promises a power reserve of 48 hours and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Lastly, the design features a subdued racing-themed calfskin leather in black secured by a stainless steel folding buckle.
