Louis Erard continues to extend their incredible portfolio of collaborations with the release of the new Le Regulateur Louis Erard x Massena LAB watch, this time partnering with horological studio Massena LAB, icons of unique and original collaborative timepieces.
Over the last few years, we’ve seen Louis Erard transform into one of the most notable and upcoming Swiss watch manufacturers in the world. Manuel Emch, CEO and artistic director of Louis Erard has been the driving force behind the brand’s change, angling them to combine rare techniques like hand-guilloche, enamel and gemstone setting into their accessibly-priced designs while also partnering with industry leading designers like Vianney Halter, Seconde/Seconde and Alain Silberstein. The limited editions that have come out of these collaborations have been some of their most popular and in the same way, we’re expecting big things for the new Le Regulateur Louis Erard x Massena LAB watch, a limited edition of 178 pieces.
William Massena, founder of Massena LAB explains the inspiration behind the new Le Regulateur Louis Erard x Massena LAB Limited Edition is that of “the clocks and the marine chronometers of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, in particular those by Antide Janvier and Ferdinand Berthoud. Marine chronometers of this period were not only aesthetically beautiful – often with intricate, metallic dials – but also technically advanced in their ability to keep precise time over a long journey.”
William Massena also adds: “A successful collaboration is one that makes sense. Louis Erard allowed me to mix codes, to cite the classicism of a master watchmaker like Antide Janvier, and to democratize a style that’s usually reserved for wealthy collectors.”
Citing the classic stylings of French watchmaker Antide Janvier, the dial of the Le Regulateur Louis Erard x Massena LAB watch is where much of the magic happens. The centrepiece has two layers, the first featuring two flanges on the hour and seconds counters which are rhodium-plated with a circular satin-finished and with centres in silver-plated opaline. The lower plate comes in a choice of two colours, rhodium-plated with a silver finish or 2N gold plated, both offering a stunning grained finish which contrasts elegantly to the rest of the smooth hardware. The dial of the Le Regulateur Louis Erard x Massena LAB Limited Edition also presents blue steel leaf-shaped hands and the logos of both brands.
The case of the Louis Erard x Massena LAB watch follows the specifications of previous Excellence Le Regulateur watches from Louis Erard with a 42mm diameter, 12.5mm height and polished stainless steel construction. New to the case is a Massena LAB crown which helps in assist in a 50 metres water resistance alongside domed sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment on both sides and an exhibition case back. Securing both limited editions to the wrist is a black calfskin leather strap and a classic stainless steel pin buckle.
Turning the Le Regulateur Louis Erard x Massena LAB Limited Edition over and you’ll find the SW 266-1 automatic winding movement responsible for powering the functions on the dial. This includes the hours at 12 o’clock, minutes at the centre and the small seconds dial at 6 o’clock. The Swiss made calibre also promises 31 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of 38 hours.
