Breitling Scores Another Win with Two Chronomat Giannis Antetokounmpo Watches

Jewellery & Watch News

Right now, Breitling is celebrating its relationship with the sporting world, namely Giannis Antetokounmpo who has been a part of the Breitling All Star family since 2022. Meet the new Chronomat Giannis Antetokounmpo Limited Edition watches

Just days ago, Breitling revealed information on some very special Chronomat watches. They capture the unstoppable energy and the formidable drive of one of NBA’s most well-respected basketball players, Giannis Antetokounmpo. The athlete, who joined the Breitling All Star family to promote the functionality and beauty of the iconic Chronomat, identifies the need for a reliable, accurate and robust timepiece to equip him with his gruelling training regime and, of course, his lifestyle, hopping from state to state and impressing with his relaxed style.

The watches in question are available in two different case materials. The stainless steel option is a GMT complication with an unmissable yellow-coloured GMT hand and a stylish Rouleaux bracelet. The other is a classic chronograph version sporting an open sapphire crystal glass exhibition caseback that puts the rose gold rotor of the Calibre B01 on show. Let’s take a look at these timepieces in a little more detail.

The New Breitling Chronomat Automatic GMT Giannis Antetokounmpo Limited Edition Watch

Available at C W Sellors is the 40mm stainless steel Breitling Chronomat Automatic GMT Giannis Antetokounmpo watch – a compact travel-friendly timepiece that carries all the instantly recognisable features of the beloved Chronomat watch. These include the rider tabs situated at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock on the bezel and the roll-like links of the Rouleaux bracelet that Breitling designed exclusively for the Chronomat watch collection. Said Rouleaux bracelet was redesigned back in 2020. It has always been a main component of the Chronomat design and takes its name from the French word for “rollers”. The cylindrical links were incredibly fashionable in the 1980s and 1990s, but Breitling discontinued the bracelet design to focus more on alternative styles. Since its re-release, however, the Roseaux bracelet can be admired in all its glory, and not just as a metal bracelet either. As a rubber band too. An example of this can be seen in the 42mm rose gold version that we’re going to cover shortly.

The Breitling Chronomat Automatic GMT Giannis Antetokounmpo Watch presents the time in a fetching shade of green that has been specifically chosen by the famous basketballer himself. A vibrant yellow-coated GMT hand stands out effortlessly against these green tones and works well alongside the Super-LumiNova-coated central hands and the baton hour markers. The date window, featured at 6 o’clock, is dressed against a white date wheel and is protected, alongside the Breitling logo at 12 o’clock, from damage by a tough scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass front. The dials also feature Antetokounmpo’s initials as the counterweight to the central second hand, while a special signed engraving features on the surface of the watch’s closed steel caseback. There are just 1750 pieces of this very special design available. The watch is also powered by the reliable self-winding Calibre 32, capable of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of 38 hours once fully wound.

The New Breitling Chronomat B01 42 Giannis Antetokounmpo Limited Edition Watch

If you’re looking for something altogether dressier and more indulgent, the 18ct rose gold Breiling Chronomat B01 42 Giannis Antetokounmpo limited edition watch is a high-spec model that boasts an in-house movement exposed through an exhibition caseback. Going back to the bracelet once more, while the 18ct rose gold Rouleaux bracelet is a hard-to-resist option for this timepiece, Breitling has also made it available in the rubber band version. Echoing the deep green shade of the dial, the rubber strap is fashioned in the same way as the Rouleaux links, featuring a roll-like design and securing to the back of the wrist with a folding clasp. Either option looks great, but the rubber iteration certainly gives the watch a sportier vibe.

The new Breiling Chronomat B01 42 Giannis Antetokounmpo limited edition watch features a chronograph dial with black sub-counters at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock laid out across a rich green backdrop. The 30-minute function at 3 o’clock, the 12-hour totaliser at 6 o’clock, and the central second hand (the latter of which is executed with the GA initial counterweight) are all controlled via the polished push-pieces at 2 and 4 o’clock on the case. The watch is also 200-meter water resistant and exposes the in-house Calibre B01 through an open caseback crafted from sapphire crystal glass. Here you can view the decorated engine, along with a rose gold rotor and, of course, a special “x of 250” lettering engraved into the rose gold metal. These watches, along with the 40mm steel GMT complication, come displayed inside a special presentation box with a note from Giannis himself.

Without doubt, the new Chronomat Giannis Antetokounmpo watches are a real treat for any fan of the iconic sports watch, or indeed, any basketball enthusiast. CEO of Breitling seems to share that opinion, giving his view of the new releases and the professional sportsman who promotes it so well;

GIANNIS ANTETOKOUNMPO

“Giannis has an incredible personal style and sense of self that we knew we had to capture in a timepiece. And so, our longstanding ambassador became a collaborator who not only brought his aesthetic to the project but also his indominable spirit.”
