A special series unbeknownst to many is that of the Bell & Ross Edicion Limitada. Taking inspiration from the world of cigars, the collection first began in 2006 with the launch of the BR Vintage 126 XL Edicion Limitada, a stunning solid rose gold chronograph with a warm tobacco dial. Then nearly a decade later, the WW1 Edicion Limitada extended the family delivering the same warm golden brown palette with a design evoking the stylings of traditional pocket watches. Now, as part of their 2022 Watches & Wonders releases, the Swiss watch manufacturer launches yet another cigar-inspired timepiece, this one part of their sporty BR 05 collection. Let’s take a look at the new Bell & Ross 05 Chrono Edicion Limitada watch…
Since its launch in 2019, the Bell & Ross BR 05 watch collection has been the focal point of the brand’s newest releases. Alongside the original time-and-date only models, we’ve seen chronographs, GMT references, skeletonised designs, a full 18ct gold BR 05 and a limited edition almost entirely coated in brilliant white diamonds. It’s safe to say the Bell & Ross BR 05 has cemented itself as a flagship piece, perfectly straddling the line between a luxury urban sports watch and a utilitarian instrument. Joining the series next is the Bell & Ross 05 Chrono Edicion Limitada watch, a limited edition of 250 pieces designed in celebration of Cuba and its culture of cigars.
The case of the Bell & Ross 05 Chrono Edicion Limitada watch mirrors much of the collection’s precursors with a 42mm cushion-shaped case with sharp angles, integrated lugs and crown guards and four screws placed at each corner of the bezel. New to the design however is the choice of 18 carat rose gold on the bezel as well as elements of the lugs and bracelet option. For the rest of the design, stainless steel opts for a satin-finished and polishing treatment covering the screw down crown and case back. We’re also treated to a 100 metre water resistant rating and scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating.
Maintaining the warm aesthetic of previous Edicion Limitada editions, the Bell & Ross 05 Chrono Edicion Limitada watch welcomes a gorgeous brown dial which according to the brand takes inspiration from the colour and design of the Maduro cigar. The dark brown wrapper of the cigar features a signature red and gold ring which is then transferred onto the dial through golden Arabic numerals and subsidiary counters and red stopwatch hands. The dial also presents Superluminova inserts on the hour and minute hands and numerals and a unique Edición Limitada inscription at 6 o’clock.
Housed within the Bell & Ross 05 Chrono Edicion Limitada watch is the self-winding BR-CAL301 movement, the very same that has powered previous BR 05 Chrono models. It runs at a frequency of 28,800vph and has a power reserve of 42 hours, allowing you to take off the watch for a couple of days before needing to rewind it. The movement itself can be admired through the sapphire crystal case back alongside its custom skeletonised rotor and special medallion.
The Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Edicion Limitada Limited Edition is available on a choice of two straps. The first is a sporty brown rubber strap with a vertical grooved pattern and the second is a luxurious 4N rose gold and stainless steel bracelet. For us, the latter is an instant winner.
