On its release in 2019, the Bell & Ross BR 05 collection set a new benchmark in affordable, high value luxury sports watches bringing together perfectly flat surfaces, effortlessly integrated bracelets and a distinctive round dial within a square case. Today, this same aesthetic returns but paired with black smoked sapphire crystal, a openwork dial and green Superluminova hands and hour markers. Meet the new Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Nightlum Limited Edition.
The Bell & Ross BR 05 watch collection began with a series of classic three-hand iterations before eventually taking the natural step into chronograph complication and then a limited edition skeleton piece. The original BR 05 Skeleton, first introduced back in 2019, was the collection’s opening limited edition and was dressed entirely in stainless steel with crisp sapphire crystal and a silver open work dial at the centre – a styling usually reserved for their BR X1 line. Then earlier this year, the Swiss watch manufacturer launched the BR 05 Skeleton Blue watch, another limited edition but this time swapping out the monochromatic aesthetic for blue tinted sapphire glass and a bold blue rubber strap. Coloured glass makes yet another return in the Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Nightlum Limited Edition but is this time paired with a green luminous skeleton dial.
Bell & Ross are certainly no strangers to Superluminova. They offer a spectacular range of “Lum” watches generously adorned with luminous coating on the dials (just take a look at our review of the newly launched Bell & Ross BR V2-94 “Full Lum” Limited Edition here for an example). The Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Nightlum Limited Edition is no different, ensuring excellent viewing in complete darkness thanks to green-coloured C3 Superluminova on the hour markers and the hands for hours and minutes. Such decoration allows the three-hand complication to contrast magnificently against the smoked sapphire glass and black skeleton movement beneath.
Showed off through the skeletonised dial of the Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Nightlum is the BR-CAL.322 automatic winding movement which operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. As well as exposing its workings through the front end, the Swiss made calibre is displayed through an exhibition sapphire crystal case back where the alloy-shaped oscillating rotor spins full circle with every flick of the wrist. The oscillating rotor has a matte surface but is complemented by satin-polished finishing on the steel case back adorned with four screws at each corner.
The satin-polished finishing on the case back extends across the entirety of the 40 millimetre stainless steel case, including the lugs and integrated stainless steel bracelet. The case also sits at 10.3mm thick and sits solidly on the wrist with the help of the integrated bracelet or by a black rubber strap. Both straps come with a satin-finished and polished stainless steel folding buckle. The Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Nightlum watch is completed by a classic screw in crown at 3 o’clock protected by two crown guards assisting in a healthy 100 metre water resistant rating.
