The famous openwork architecture of the Hamilton Jazzmaster Open Heart returns, this time backed by a choice of three stunning gradient dials. Let’s take a look at the new 2022 Hamilton Jazzmaster Open Heart 40mm watch collection.
Hamilton have no shortage of experience with skeletonised watches. Arguably their most famous model is the Ventura, a unique boomerang-shaped watch made famous by Elvis Presley during the shoot of the 1961 film Blue Hawaii. It also remains one of the Swiss watch manufacturer’s most renowned “movie” watches having appeared in all four Men in Black films, many of which showcased the Open Heart dial. As for the Hamilton Jazzmaster, it is easily one of the brand’s most classic dress watches and offers a wide selection of displays and complications for all types of luxury watch wearers. The Hamilton Jazzmaster Day Date is a popular choice for its large, curved day aperture as is the Jazzmaster Chronograph and the line of classic three-hand displays. However, there is no reference more prevalent in the family than the Hamilton Jazzmaster Open Heart and today the family expands even further with the release of three new Hamilton Jazzmaster Open Heart 40mm watches.
As you’d expect, all three Hamilton Jazzmaster Open Heart 40mm watches showcase a stunning dial with the signature cut-out pattern revealing the watch’s automatic winding movement inside. The first of the three opts for a gorgeous dark blue gradient dial darkening as the rich blue tone reaches the edges of the stainless steel case. This model is available on a coffee-brown calfskin leather strap (H32675540) or a classic five-link stainless steel bracelet (H32675140). The second design is possibly our favourite, maintaining the current trend for green-dialled watches, with a forest green gradient centre. Like the blue dial, this watch is available on a brown leather band (H32675560) or a metal bracelet (H32675160). Lastly, is a more classic iteration featuring a crisp-silver white dial equipped with a blue leather strap (H32675650) or a steel bracelet (H32675150).
Familiar to the Hamilton Jazzmaster series, the new Jazzmaster Open Heart 40mm watches feature arrow-head shaped hour markers and slender hands for the hours, minutes and seconds. For the blue and green dials, these are rhodium plated while the silver-white dial opts for blue painted hardware for a traditional finish. The hands of the watches are also completed with Superluminova inserts and at 9 o’clock, the dial presents the Hamilton logo and marks its status as an automatic winding timepiece.
As for the cases of the 2022 Hamilton Jazzmaster Open Heart watches, the typical slender architecture is revived in stainless steel with a diameter of 40 millimetres and a height of 11.05 millimetres. The cases come with brushed and polished finishing, sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment, thin lugs and a water resistant rating of 50 metres. Turn the Hamilton Jazzmaster Open Heart 40mm over and you can also admire the Swiss made mechanical movement further through the exhibition case back.
The movement in question is the H-10 automatic winding calibre which is ultimately Hamilton’s version of Swatch’s Powermatic 80 movement. It delivers anti-magnetic properties thanks to its Nivachron balance spring as well as a power reserve of 80 hours, 25 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The oscillating rotor also features some openwork detailing and is engraved with the Hamilton logo.
