Designed in aid of the Coral Restoration Foundation, Oris have unveiled their latest Oris Aquis Carysfort Reef Limited Edition watch that will once again help raise funds and awareness for the charity. This is the third Oris Carysfort Reef watch we have seen, with the first unveiled back in 2017 and the second 18 carat rose gold model released in January this year. The third instalment is a limited edition of 2,000 pieces and is part of their iconic Aquis GMT collection.
Oris have been working alongside the Coral Restoration Foundation since 2014, helping to assist in the protection of the endangered Carysfort Reef. The ecosystem forms part of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary which makes up the third largest barrier reef in the world and the only one in the United States. Due to a wide variety of factors including overfishing, coastal development, and pollution, over the last 50 years the reef has become severely degraded with coral populations declining by up to 98%. Already, the Coral Restoration has made significant strides in securing its future by returning nearly 25,000 corals to the reef through its out planting programmes. With the help of Oris, they now hope to increase this figure by at least 30,000 by the end of 2020.
“This partnership is central to our continuing mission to bring Change for the Better,” says Oris Co-CEO Rolf Studer. “Through the Oris Carysfort Reef Limited Edition, we’re really stepping up our ambitions and our contribution to returning the world’s corals to their original state. It’s a hugely important project and we’re excited by everything Coral Restoration Foundation is achieving through it.”
Over the last few years, Oris have made it their goal to bring more awareness and raise funds for a variety of ocean conservation charities. We have seen three Oris Great Barrier Reef Limited Editions, the Oris Lake Baikal and the Oris World Clean Up Day watch, all which have highlighted the importance of protecting our waters. With the new Oris Aquis Carysfort Reef Limited Edition, the Swiss watch manufacturer hope to help the Coral Restoration Foundation achieve their vision of making Carysfort the world’s first reef to experience successful, ecosystem-level recovery.
By purchasing your own Oris Aquis Carysfort Reef Limited Edition watch, you can help support this work while also treating yourself to a stunning new timepiece. It’s stunning light blue dial, two toned bezel and striking orange rubber strap makes it a real showstopper while its incredible GMT complication that can track up to three different time zones at once makes it perfect for international travellers.
It’s sophisticated stainless steel case measures to 43.5mm in diameter and 14mm thick with brushed and polished finished while its unique bezel showcases a notched two toned black and blue ceramic insert on the bezel with a laser-engraved 24 hour scale around its circumference. The black and blue theme works as a day and night indicator with the black corresponding to night-time hours and blue for daytime hours. Accents of orange can also be found on the bezel, on the central GMT hand and on the inner 24 hour scale.
With a water resistance of 300 metres, the Oris Aquis GMT Carysfort Reef watch is suitable for swimming and shallow diving in all your favourite oceans and lakes, thanks to the screw in crown and screw down case back. The case back is also beautifully decorated with an engraving of different species of coral found in the Carysfort Reef along with the limited edition number out of 2,000 pieces. The timepiece is completed by two strap options: a sporty orange rubber strap or a stainless steel bracelet, both fitted with a folding buckle.
The Oris 798 automatic winding movement is used to provide a remarkable range of functions on the stunning blue gradient dial. These include central hands for hours, minutes seconds and 24 hour hand, date window and a power reserve of 42 hours. The three time zone readings can be set using the standard central hour hand, the central GMT hand with orange tip and the bi-directional GMT bezel in combination with the GMT hand. The blue dial beautifully imitates the shallow water that is home to Florida’s coral and is decorated with Superluminova coated hands and indexes for easy legibility in every lighting.
