Jewellery & Watch News
Last year’s Tissot Seastar 2000 Pro Powermatic 80 collection answered all our prayers for an affordable high-performance divers watch with a powerful automatic movement, diver’s bezel, 600 metre water resistance and solid steel case. Now for 2022, the brand updates the line with two new dial colours, a gradient blue dial and a gradient black dial with stunning gold hardware.
Just like the Tissot Seastar 2000 Pro Powermatic 80 of last year, the two new models are much more than just casual waterproof watches for the beach but timepieces made for exploring the deepest parts of our oceans. The stainless steel cases are not small on the wrist, measuring in at 46 millimetres in diameter with a height of 16.25 millimetres but thanks to the short lugs, the otherwise imposing size sits streamline and comfortable against the skin. The stainless steel is 316L grade with polished and brushed finishing with the blue dialled model opting for an additional black PVD coating.
On top, the cases of each Tissot Seastar 2000 Pro Powermatic 80 watches present bevelled and domed sapphire crystal glass with an anti-reflective coating and a large unidirectional bezel made of stainless steel. The bezel is notched for easy grip, even while wearing thick divers’ gloves, and features a black polished ceramic insert engraved with a 60 minute scale for measuring elapsed dive times. At the side, the case reveals a helium escape valve which assists in the watch’s impressive 600 metre water resistance. This rating complies with the stringent ISO 6425 standard for dive watches.
New for the 2022 Tissot Seastar 2000 Pro Powermatic 80 is the dials. The same wave pattern of last year’s collection returns with a degrade, or gradient, effect where the colour darkens as it reaches the edges. Reference T120.607.37.041.00 pairs its black PVD coated case with a deep blue centre which fades to black at the dial’s circumference and pairs with rhodium-plated hands and indexes with Superluminova and a silver 60 minute scale on the bezel. Reference T120.607.17.441.01 on the other hand opts for a classic stainless steel case with a light grey dial which fades to black at the edges. It also differs in its use of gold-plated hardware on the dial which extends out onto the numerals on the bezel. Both dial’s feature a combination of round, triangle and square-shaped markers and a T-shaped counterweight on the seconds hand.
Fuelling the Tissot Seastar 2000 Pro watches is the Powermatic 80 automatic winding movement, a Swiss made calibre utilised exclusively by brands under the Swatch Group umbrella. It offers several major improvements to its original ETA base included an extended power reserve of 80 hours and an anti-magnetic Nivachron balance spring. There’s also hours, minutes, seconds and date complication, 23 jewels and a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. You can watch the movement through the sapphire crystal case back of each Tissot Seastar 2000 Pro Powermatic 80 watch.
