Dressed in a stunning new attire of red, blue and yellow in tribute of the racing team’s livery, the 2022 TAG Heuer Formula 1 Red Bull Special Edition resumes the long-established relationship between the Swiss watch manufacturer and the Formula 1 Racing team.
TAG Heuer and Formula 1 boast one of the longest standing relationships in the luxury watch industry. Their partnership first began in 1968, when founder Jack Heuer initiated a sponsorship agreement with Swiss racing driver Jo Siffert in 1968. From that moment, drivers, engineers and team principles have been spotted with their own TAG Heuer watches on and off the course. In 2016, TAG Heuer became the official partner and timekeeper of the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team and ever since, we’ve enjoyed an annual special edition watch in honour of their partnership. For 2022, its all about the blue, red and yellow with the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Red Bull Special Edition.
The dial of the 2022 TAG Heuer Formula 1 Red Bull watch is where much of the modifications have happened compared to previous editions, most obviously the colourway. The backdrop is finished in a dark sun-brushed blue designed to replicate the tones of the racing suits of the Red Bull Racing team while the contrasting yellow and red accents mimic the Red Bull logo itself. It a stunning show of primary colours assures fantastic legibility with bright yellow used on the central chronograph seconds hand and on the counter at 6 o’clock. Meanwhile, touches of red can be found on the minutes track and on the hands for the 1/10th second chronograph counter and minute chronograph counter.
As always with a TAG Heuer X Red Bull Racing Team watch, the new 2022 edition has been closely designed in partnership with the team allowing for subtle but clever references to the sport to be included. In this case, the Arabic numerals on the dial take the font from racing car speedometers and the lines above the 5 and 7 numerals evoke the starting line of a Formula 1 racetrack. The dial of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Red Bull watch also delivers large skeletonised hands for the central hours and minutes treated to inserts of Superluminova.
The case of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Red Bull Special Edition also welcomes a few understated changes including a new tachymeter bezel. Finished in blue aluminium, the bezel still features its ratcheted aesthetic but replaces the oversized numerals with thinner hallmarks. There is also a new red accent stripe on the chronograph pusher at 2 o’clock. The rest of the case including its 43mm diameter, sapphire crystal glass and 200 metre water resistant remains familiar. It is engineered from stainless steel and comes with a screw down case back engraved with the Red Bull racing logo and a chequered flag motif.
To secure the 2022 TAG Heuer Formula 1 Red Bull Special Edition to the wrist, you can choose from two strap designs. The first is a three-link stainless steel bracelet with a double safety folding clasp with pilot extension. The second is a sporty blue rubber strap with a textured finish and a stainless steel pin buckle. The watch also appreciates the precision of the Swiss made Ronda 5040D quartz chronograph, a calibre spotted in many TAG Heuer Formula 1 watches.
