Hamilton is one of our all-time favourite Swiss watch brands and we have found many of our customers agree. Hamilton watches were first bought to life in 1892, when the original factory was established in Lancaster, Pennsylavia, a site the company was based at for the first 111 years of its life. They began to make a name for themselves during the early days of the American railroads, supplying high precision watches to employees of the railway to help prevent and reduce accidents with synchronised timing. Then in the early 1900’s, as the age of aviation developed, Hamilton took on timing the skies helping the likes of the U.S. Airmail service.
All while assuming their position as one of the greatest watch manufacturers in America, they continued to innovate and create technologies that are still used in the industry today. In 1957, the famous Hamilton Ventura became the world’s first electrical watch powered by a battery and then in 1970, the Pulsar watch was created becoming the world’s first LED digital watch. Innovations have kept coming since, including their own in-house movements produced together with ETA that boast impressive power reserves up to 80 hours.
Hamilton is most famed for their “Movie Watches”. For over 90 years, they have appeared in hundreds of feature films with their first appearance being in 1932 in the Marlene Dietrich movie Shanghai Express. Since then, they have been on the wrists of superstars like Elvis Presley in Blue Hawaii, Will Smith in Men in Black and more recently, the 2014 film Interstellar where the Hamilton Khaki Field played a pivotal role in the plot.
