Jewellery & Watch News
The notion of using a GMT watch is foreign to most of us after a year at home, but with restrictions slowly lifting and life getting back to “normal”, thoughts of travelling once again feel possible. Arriving just in time to accompany you on your first overseas adventure since the pandemic is the new Bell & Ross BR 03 93 GMT watch, a three-time zone instrument dressed in a sporty black and red colourway.
Ask any luxury watch collector and they’ll tell you how hard it is to find truly good GMT timepiece. Bell & Ross are somewhat a trailblazer in his crowded area, with their additonal time zone references a solid place to start for those looking for their first luxury GMT watch. Retaining the Swiss watch manufacturer’s military-inspired heritage, the new BR 03 93 GMT blends a range of their characteristic aviation tropes with a large red arrow-shaped GMT hand. GMT function, which stands for Greenwich Mean Time, allows you to display a second time zone on the dial with the additional hand.
As we said, Bell & Ross are no strangers to the GMT complication and in fact this is not the first BR 03 93 GMT watch we have seen. Back in 2016, the brand launched a similar looking design dressed in stainless steel with a matching steel 24 hour scale bezel, black dial and vivid orange accents. In comparison, the new Bell & Ross BR 03 93 GMT delivers an arguably more contemporary and sporty aesthetic with the stainless steel case now paired with a black and red anodised aluminium bezel and a black dial with energetic red accents.
Following suit to much of the Bell & Ross BR 03 93 collection, the new GMT model is presented with a 42mm by 42mm square-shaped case with satin-brushed and polished finishing and the legendary round dial at the centre. Four decorative screws adorn each corner of the case while a screw in crown and screw down case back guarantee a water resistance rating of 100 metres. The 24 hour scale is made instantly legible thanks to the anodised aluminium bezel which can be turned bi-directionally. The bezel’s two-toned black and red colourway conveys more than just a sophisticated finish, but it can be used to reference night and day with the black half referencing evening times and red signifying daytime hours.
Matching the bezel and housed beneath scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass is a smooth black dial adorned with metal skeletonised hands for hours and minutes and large Arabic numerals and applied indexes, all adorned with Superluminova. The bold red GMT hand of the Bell & Ross BR 03 93 GMT watch similarly allows for readability at night. Powering each of these functions and the small round date window at 4.30H is the BR-CAL.303 automatic winding calibre based on the trusty ETA 2893-2. Hiding behind the closed case back, the movement delivers a 42 hour power reserve and beats to the rhythm of 28,800 vibrations per hour.
Retailing at £3,500, the Bell & Ross BR 03 93 GMT watch is delivered on a smooth black calfskin leather strap and satin-brushed and polished stainless steel pin buckle. Additionally, for a change in look, the piece also arrives with an additional black synthetic fabric strap.
