In short, the British brand was created by George Bamford who became an avid watch collector at a young age. However, his unique tastes meant he was bored seeing the same watch designs on everyone’s wrists. When he was gifted a Rolex Daytona watch, he decided to apply a DLC coating to the case. The result was breathtaking and it was then that George decided to start the Bamford Watch Department.
For a long while, Bamford watches operated by customising other branded watches for their customers. While the customer’s watch was with them, they were provided with a temporary ‘service’ Bamford watch. Nevertheless, George Bamford quickly realised that many of his clients were becoming attached to these temporary timepieces and asked to purchase them for themselves. This is how the first Bamford Mayfair watch collection came to be. The two new Bamford Mayfair California Edition watches released for 2020 continue to be based on these very models but with a completely evolved design.
The extraordinary ‘California’ dial is absolutely breathtaking, made up of a mix of Roman numerals and numbers decorated in a khaki green luminous coating. The rugged shade of green perfectly complements the smooth black dial and pairs with the luminous central hands. The grey version of the Bamford Mayfair California Edition watch comes fitted with a matching khaki green NATO strap while the black version is equipped with a sportier black rubber band. Both straps are fitted with a black coated pin buckle.
Legendary to the brand, the Bamford Mayfair California Edition watches are presented with extraordinary 40mm stainless steel cases finished with military grade titanium coating (MGTC). Available in either grey or black, the effect of the coating is something that must be witnessed up close, providing both additional durability and a masculine finish. The grey or black coating can also be found on the rotating metal bezel decorated with a 12 hour scale. Hidden within the case is the Swiss Ronda 715 quarts movement which provides hour, minutes and seconds function and a date window at 3 o’ clock.
