Jewellery & Watch News
The new Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Black LUM Ceramic Limited Edition watch is a stealthy companion for wearing day or night. Here’s everything you need to know.
Bell & Ross has been making watch collecting much simpler for connoisseurs, especially those who are big into the sports watch genre. No longer do enthusiasts have to wait ridiculous lengths to acquire the watch of their dreams. That’s because the watchmaker created the BR 05 watch collection. The designs from this collection have everything that a man could want in a sports watch. Chiselled, masculine case dimensions, legibility, a stand-out case shape (Bell & Ross is a master at that!) and a reliable mechanical movement to keep accuracy, day and night. Thus, we move on to talk about Bell & Ross’ very recent BR 05 Skeleton Black LUM Ceramic Limited Edition watch, out now and available to order at C W Sellors.
Ceramic and Sports
As much as this may surprise you, ceramic is not all that common in a sports watch. The material isn’t the easiest to work with. It needs to be strong and robust for wearing every day of the week but must also be scratch-resistant enough to keep its alluring sheen. Once mastered, manufacturing sports watches from ceramic is quite an advantage. Bell & Ross has nailed it with the new release, which changes nothing about the integrity of the popular BR 05 watch design but does implement a new ceramic bracelet.
Bell & Ross walked on virgin snow when it released the first square-shaped case. It was like nothing before. This first concept and those watches that followed were not just solely based on an avant-garde idea, either. The brand has released several vintage-inspired cockpit-style watches too. These models pay tribute to WWI and WWII and set benchmarks in the realm of aviation watches. The BR 05 watch collection, however, is somewhat sportier. These tool watches are made for wearing every day of the week. Alongside this new watch is the BR 05 Black Ceramic watch, which features a sapphire crystal glass front, a matching ceramic bracelet and an option of an alternative black rubber band. The new Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Black LUM Ceramic Limited Edition watch, however, has an openworked dial that exposes the working movement through its display.
The New Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Black LUM Ceramic Limited Edition Watch
The new Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Black LUM Ceramic watch bears a fully sandblasted case made from ceramic. The screw-down crown helps upkeep a 100-meter water resistance and not only features the famous Bell & Ross monogram but is also flanked by two sloping crown guards that effortlessly turn into the case, hugging its shape. The standout feature in this design is its smoked sapphire crystal glass front, which adds mystery to the design and further enforces a sense of stealth across the case. The hands and markers of the watch are all finished in black rhodium for a sleek finish, sitting atop a working movement that can be admired both through the front and back of the watch.
Bell & Ross experts make sure that legibility is key to this new BR 05 Skeleton Black LUM Ceramic watch. C5 Super-LumiNova has been applied to the pill-shaped markers, which gives them the appearance of almost floating atop the openworked movement. The hands too have been treated with the same luminous material, allowing them to glow brightly in the dark or when worn in light-limiting conditions.
Other Features You’ll Want to Know About the New Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Black LUM Ceramic Watch
The skeletonised dial and sleek black ceramic case are not the only features you’ll want to know about the new Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Black LUM Ceramic watch. The rugged tool also sits at a height of 11.2mm and comes fitted on a matching black sandblasted bracelet. Great for sports, daily living and, of course, for pairing with formal attire, the bracelet can’t look out of place, even if it tried. What is clear by this design is that Bell & Ross is still managing to meet the criteria outlined by Bruno Belamich when he first hopped on board the brand - pillars of; performance, readability, water resistance, and precision. The new BR 05 Skeleton Ceramic watch meets these values with ease, underpinning the series’ design language very accurately. Somehow the new ceramic version is sportier, but in some ways, dressier too. That has to be down to the glossy tile-like links of the bracelet, but also the avant-garde circle-within-a-square profile that the brand has become so synonymous with.
Inside the new Bell & Ross BR 05 Skeleton Black LUM Ceramic watch is the BR-CAL.322-1 – a true workhorse in terms of performance. You get 54 hours of power reserve to enjoy once the watch is wound. Plus, the engine performs at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and boasts beautiful detailing, which can be admired through the front of the watch. There are just 500 of these special Skeleton Black LUM Ceramic watches available in the world, no doubt, adding to the appeal of this unique design all the more. Despite the stealthy look of the watch, you also get a resolutely urban vibe from this watch. You can enjoy the 40mm BR 05 in its steel form for pairing with a suit during the evening, but switch over to something like this model for casual daytime attire. Either way, it looks cool in a relaxed or formal setting, regardless of whether the brand will later reveal a rubber band version of this watch or not.
Bell & Ross always seems to be burning the midnight oil, sniffing out new ways to secure its seat at the very forefront of the innovation train. What we see next from the brand is never quite known, but we do know it’s always guaranteed to impress.
